He's inside the Area. Keepers can use their hands inside the larger of the two boxes around the goal. True it wasn't the best play in the world and he really needed to get the ball when he came out to play it, but sitting in the goal when the ball is that close isn't really an option either. Big Kudos to that defender though. He did exactly what he was supposed to do when the keeper came out and got into the goal to make a big stop for his team.
