Ian and I saw it together on the big screen. Pretty decent. Action was a bit shakey-cam for my liking, especially since chunks of it were in the dark, which meant you can't tell what's happening.
Wakanda intrigues me. Great, they have super advanced tech. But how do they combine that with a political system out of the bronze age? A hereditary monarchy, apparently with no checks and balances on it at all - and at any time any person with a half decent claim on the throne can challenge the king to a fistfight, beat him, and become king.
Powerful monarchies gave way to democracies or democratic constitutional monarchies for a reason, right? Wakanda has a highly educated population plugged in to the latest information technology... but who are perfectly content in having no say whatsoever in how they are governed? Little strange.

The mix of traditional and high tech seemed very hamfisted to me.

For all that, the portrayal of Wakanda was fairly faithful to the source material.

Black Panther Passes Titanic’s Box Office Record
James Cameron’s Titanic held the top spot on the list for decades since its release in 1997, and was only replaced in recent years, first by Cameron’s other movie Avatar, which was then bumped to second place by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As of this weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Panther has overtaken Titanic’s $659 million total, the Marvel movie’s $665 million domestic total (at time of publication) bringing it into third place.
It’s going to take a lot for Black Panther to beat out Avatar, which, according to Box Office Mojo, has $760 million, just shy of $100 million more than its rival, and it doesn’t look like Black Panther could beat The Force Awakens’s nearly $937 million, though that depends on how long Marvel will keep it in theaters.
Future Headline: 'Angar The Screamer' opens to $400 million. Oh come on!? He's a hippie and a villain! I can't even...
