And yet, I have a feeling these same anti-Abortionists don't have a problem with our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (so long as they're not required to sacrifice anything). I was watching C-SPAN (shudder) the night of the big Health-care Vote (last Sunday) and one of the ant-abortion senators got up and said that taxpayer money cannot/should not be used to kill the unborn. Hearing that I realized, "Wait a minute, we can't use taxpayer money to kill the unborn but we can use it to purchase new tanks, new planes, new rifles, new aircraft carriers and submarines, new missiles etc in order to better kill those who are already born? Hypocrisy much?" -- does anyone else find it ironic that the 'Pro-Life' party is the party that sent us into these two wars?sunnyside wrote:Look, I think we agree. None of us support their actions. I was just explaining why anyone would be upset at all.Mikey wrote: I can read that. I don't recall writing anything about what Sunnyside personally did to anyone. My response to these nut-jobs still stands.
Though I suppose with the abortion people I guess I can understand where they're coming from. I don't think murder is the right answer to murder, at least not on an institutional level. But well, how would you guys feel if people were legally allowed to execute their kids so long as they were under the age of three, and people did so routinely? Obviously it's different to you. But not to them.

Why of course, aborted babies can't grow up and become grist for the mill now can they? ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Well, we need to keep having babies to grow into new troops for the next money making war.

One of my friends, in response to the passing of the health-care bill did in fact post on FB "So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause"Sionnach Glic wrote:"With the power the Senate has given me, I shall create a Grand Army of the Republic!"

No offense, but your friend's a moron if he thought that quote was in any way applicable.

I fail to see how this "re-form" actually changes much.

It's more like "insurance rules changing", though it's a sad commentary on the American political system that even this little bit of progress took so long and involved so much bitching.

Yes, that was my reaction. But one of the nice things about our relationship is that although we're on opposite sides of the political spectrum we can still get a long. I think it's because we know where the line between attacking ideas and personal attacks is, and we both enjoy discussing ideas. But still, when I read that I reacted like this:Sionnach Glic wrote:No offense, but your friend's a moron if he thought that quote was in any way applicable.

How much it'll change things remains to be seen, in large part because nobody (probably including the congressmen) really knows what's in it. They just know the bullet points their favorite information source gave them. This is critical for a bill where little details in the wording can make a lot of differenceReliant121 wrote:I fail to see how this "re-form" actually changes much.
But also because the thing is going to have a lot of unintended consequences that it's just too soon to predict, especially regarding how the insurance companies and consumers will react.
However it could have pretty substantial effects. Such as actually getting an additional 30 million or so people health insurance or bankrupting the nation.
