In the more sparsely populated areas of the country, judges have big circuits. That and their schooling tend to make them a bit more cosmopolitan.

Why not just stage an "unofficial" prom and tell the school to go screw itself?

Remember that the South isn't one single grouping. If you went to my family in Tennessee and something like this happened. They'd more then likely stare out of interest. Hell, my nephew just got his first black friend and my aunt is thrilled about him making "colored friends". While in the north, saying that would be insulting. In Franklin TN, its a cultural experience.

Also remember that many in the South view the North as a trouble spot for culture clashing. Look at the crime rates in most cities like DC, Baltimore, Philly, NY, Boston, LA (not north really but its built as a mixed city). Its just how life is and its not treated as a bad thing like it is here.

I'm sure you're right, in the same way that my area is different culturally from Boston, Buffalo, or Bismarck. What I'm talking about is a Yankee perception of the South; whether it's true or not, I'd feel like a Jewish star would be as much of a bull's-eye in Charlotte as in Vidalia.

Well the Southern perception of those of you on the north side of the Mason Dixon side of the line, here after referred to simply as, "Damn Yankees," are as a bunch of uncultured, unwashed, self-important, liberal douche bags. Those to the west of us are a bit odd but agreeable, at least until you get to the coast. The left coast are Damn Yankees taking it to a whole new level.
