Raped? You May Lose Your Health Insurance
Re: Raped? You May Lose Your Health Insurance
Wait. You get paid in pounds? I thought it was all supposed to be Euros these days?
Also something else I'm curious about. How much do you "feel" exchange rate alterations? For example, in dollars, you've taken a 40% or pay cut compared to the exchange rates that fleeced me when I visited London some years ago.
Do things seem more expensive or does it seem like everything just the same, it only matters if you travel.

Britain doesn't use the euro.sunnyside wrote:Wait. You get paid in pounds? I thought it was all supposed to be Euros these days?

With the Pounds rather steady strength, I wouldn't accept the Euro either.

You mean apart from the last year when the pound got raped on the internation currency exchange?
The pound has gone from buying 3 NZ dollars this time last year too 2 dollars right now, with no good chance of fully recovering from what I've read.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Yeah, like Teaos said, the Pound took a pounding.
What I'm not sure about is if that means anything in regard to buying local goods or if it just means a vacation to New Zeland is now more expensive for a Brit.
When I was in London I remember that things like food and drink were notably more expensive in dollars than they would be back home in the US. On the other hand it's London which, at that point in time, was in the running for most expensive city in the world. So buying a pint in London might have been like buying popcorn in a movie theater.

Ian - that makes a lot more sense... more like a limited whole-life policy.

We have pounds. Prices here seem to be fairly much the same as usual. I do notice when I travel that I'm not getting the benefit I did previously.sunnyside wrote:Wait. You get paid in pounds? I thought it was all supposed to be Euros these days?

When I was about 9 or 10, my sister was going to spend a few weeks backpacking around the continent. I gave her $400 and asked her to buy me lire; at the time the lira was about 2,500 to an American dollar. She came home, gave me my $400 back, and explained that she forgot. Two weeks later, the lira was going about 1,500/dollar.

Britain retaining the pound is less of an economic decision, more of a decision based on public opinion. A very very large proportion of the British public wishes to remain British, instead of becoming pawns of the EU.

I wouldn't say that the Germans or the French are pawns to the EU. I don't see how we would be either. Plus if we had the Euro we would actually be able to go on holiday without getting ripped off by the money exchange people.Reliant121 wrote:Britain retaining the pound is less of an economic decision, more of a decision based on public opinion.
