How did it cause someone to become a pedophile? That doesn't make the least bit of sense...
Ugh...that's the subject of a lot of discussion amongst us Vets. Apparently this fellow was on an early tour in Yugoslavia and witnessed some horrific things in regards to the local children and he developed PTSD. So obviously one of his triggers was kids and a couple of years ago he was caught molesting a neighbours kid. How the trigger lead to molestation has never been really explained, he was convicted and the judge basically said it was a BS excuse but he won on appeal, last I heard he was in a mental institution in Winnipeg.
I never bought it personally. I've done some...horrible things when triggered but I was always aware, however distantly of what was happening. I don't buy his story just because you usually act to protect yourself or others from perceived danger. I have no idea what the hell he was trying to do there, it doesn't fit into the "fight reflex being stuck on" that is the typical symptom.
@ Kendall - I don't know why this just occurred to me, but why did these guys have pistols at all? Is that SOP in the CF? IIRC, pistols in the US Army are pretty much reserved for officers and for folks who couldn't reasonably carry a carbine or rifle - drivers, tankers, etc. Joe NCO Footslogger carries his M4 and rounds.
I'm not sure, my feeling is they were employed as drivers in some capacity. Where your rifle would be racked in the vehicle or it would be awkward to employ it. Drivers usually carry one and guys have been known to tape them to the underside of the drivers hatch coaming in APC's so they can get them easily.
The CF only has a relatively few number of pistols, the Browning those guys had was worn out in my time and "mature" in my Dad's, so they tend to be issued sparingly.
