From what dad has said having cannons and SSM weaponry on ships nowadays is relatively superfluous. How long as it been since a major ship to ship battle? I certainly cant think of anything for a VERY long time.

But how long has it been since two nations with honest to goodness navies actually came to blows? It will happen in the future and when it does I can guarantee the nations will want to blow each other's ships up, at least on general principle.

The US military is getting so focused on killing terrorists it gives me some concern should we ever feel someone with a proper military needs to be shot.

This "live for today" crap shows a major lack of foresight on the part of whoever is calling the shots for military expenditure.

I think the fact that that piracy exists is ample enough reason for putting a good old shoota on a ship.
