Seriously, I'm a tolerant person for the most part, but that tolerance doesn't extend to intolerant people. :|

And women accept that kind of treatment. Some feel that they deserve it. How sad.

Well, the women over there don't have any choice. What are they going to do, organize a protest march? They'd be promptly arrested and tortured; probably killed.

That's true. Sad, but true.

People in "free" countries often forget that our right to protest and disagree openly with the system is not shared by a vast percentage of the world's population.

Very true. It's easy to forget basic freedoms we have and take for granted.

This is one of the few cases where my respect for a "different culture" is approximately zero.
I agree. For the most part, I'm pretty fine with people doing things differently. But when it comes to things like a father killing his daughter for "dishonouring" the family when she was raped by her brother (true story), my tolerance goes down the drain.

As some British guy in India whose name I can't recall right now said:
"You say it is your custom to burn the wives of deceased men? Well we have our own customs. When a man burns a woman alive, we hang that man. Go and build your funeral pyre; beside it we'll build our gallows. You follow your rituals, and then we shall follow ours."

Ask Seafort - he's posted that a number of times.

... but you ask the women there, and they say they (from the interviews/documentaries I've seen) that this is their rightful place and that western women are immoral for practicing their <basic freedoms>

They're so indoctrinated since birth that they really don't think they are worth as much as a man - that's the saddest part of all. :madashell:

PLease do remember that not everyone in that region thinks in eactly that ay. it is like saying that because region A is, for example, purple and should thus be obliterated into death. But, people may forget that there are various gradations of purple. As of now, we're looking at the worse forms of purple. There are probably many more who are just purple, but don't really practice it, only uphold it in a basic way of thinking, but do not practice it as described.

the Quran forbids meaningless killing like many other religous books. though a reason for killing can be found all too easily for some people.
