It's what I said earlier - everyone so built up the "Palin is an idiot who will get trounced" thing in advance, that in the end the mere fact that she didn't basically drool on the stage means that she looks far better than she did before.

Agreed. The bar was set so low that as long as she didn't come across as a raving lunatic people would be saying she did well.

Why the headbanging? It's not as if the statement's in any way surprising - Fox would say she won even if she came out in half a dozen boxes.

Well I was going to do the eye roll but I didn't find it immediately and I was thinking I really wanted to use the head banging icon for once since I don't think I have so far. So I was like sure I'll do that.

I guess that win is what gave her license to call Obama a "friend of terrorists" after finding that he worked for the same charitable organization as John Bayres (sp.)

The British press have picked up on that quite a bit - mainly in surport of Obama. It would be a strange liberial politican from Chicago who didn't move in the same circles as a Chicago university professor with a sixties radical past, no matter how far he took it.
How are the US press treating it? It seems like a very serious allegation to make with very little to back it up.

The press over here seem to be treating it as it is: a simple election-season attack. Fortunately, most of the outlets appear to be actually detailing the derivation of the attack - i.e., informing people that Obama's connection is merely having been involved in the same organizations.

The press is all but ignoring Palin's ties to a seccession movement. And her ties are a lot more powerful than Obama's to a terrorist group.

Online sources seem to focusing on the upcoming testimony in the "Trooper-gate" affair.

That's another point: If Palin is going to play the Kevin Bacon game with terrorists, I'm sure it would be easy to link her to several unsavory types just as easily as it is to link Obama to the weathermen.
It just seems bizarre to me that she would make the comment, a mixture of playground jibe and serious allegation so casually.

I guess I read deeper into things than the average "Joe six-pack," as she would say, but to me it smacks of her inexperience and seems to be her attempt to try and play on the same field as the "grown-ups." I can't speak nationally, but around here it anecdotally seems to have backfired - folks this close to NYC don't take well to the word "terrorist" being bandied around casually.

A newspaper I picked up this morning was pretty much pointing and laughing at Palin's claim.

Well, she has since toned down her language a bit (at a rally at which they press were disallowed by bouncers to mingle with the attendees!) even though she has gone on about some early GOP attacks about Pastor Wright which McCain himself has said he wanted to disassociate himself from:
