I'm a bit older than you, so I recall a couple that have landed around here, although they were much decreased from those that land south of here. However, the folks who aren't from our neck of the woods have never had the pleasure of a true autumn nor'easter.Captain Picard's Hair wrote:Good luck, man. Up north here we don't get many direct hits by hurricanes; I've never seen one firsthand. At worst I've seem the very edge of one cut through, with effects little worse than a strong thunderstorm (we get plenty enough of those). 'Tis lucky for my fellow New Yorkers and I, since this is a coastal city. The longest I've been without power was during the great blackout of 2004, and where I live that was only 10 hours (folks in Cleveland were without power for over a week) - though it was one of the hotter days of that summer.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Well, it's coming in; the outer bands are hitting me now. The wind is already pretty serious. In about three hours, I'll be in the eye.
If I don't make it, let me just say: YEEEEEHAAAAAW!!!!!!

From what I've heard, the storm is pretty bad. All power is out in Houston. ![worried :worried:](./images/smilies/sad-smiley-062.gif)

Re: Hurricane Ike
There was a bit about Ike on the news this morning, apparently it caused a fair bit of damage. On the plus side, there was no mention of fatalities, which is a good thing.

I heard 3 fatalities, which may or may not be in Houston, I don't recall.Rochey wrote:There was a bit about Ike on the news this morning, apparently it caused a fair bit of damage. On the plus side, there was no mention of fatalities, which is a good thing.
