I love building hordes of small missile ships and just swarming my enemy! Then you call in the battleships a minute later. So while my enemy is busy with my smaller ships. My battleships get to have several volleys where they aren't being targeted.

I only ever build 6 Capital ships, any more than that they dont level well. By the end they are usually all level 8+.

But sometimes when I know I'm in no dnager I zoom right in and watch the battle up close, its really pretty sometimes. They did put in a lot of detail. I just find the lack of any campaign odd.

But the guy at the store said a expansion pack is coming out soon...

I tend to use pirate ships for leveling my capital ships. Figure out what system they are planning on hitting, and park my capital ships in the way. Park them near a warp line though, in case they start taking damage. The system defenses also get built up, with a pair of repair bases, in each other's radius, and fighter hangers in range (best is placing them between the repair bases, so they get repaired faster). Gauss on the edges to deal with anyone who approaches to kill the fighter hangars and repair bays.

The result is a decent system defense where I know the enemy will attack, and I can use my capital ships to slowly wear them down, and gain experience. Small ships never gain experience, so I don't use them as much.

The other fun part is that the way the pirates work is that the pirates get a wave of ships given to them, and that wave heads out for the targeted system. Survivors then return to the pirate system and stay there. So if you don't kill the pirate ships, they add to the pirate system's defenses. Makes for a fun Hit & Run with Capital ships slowly picking off pirate ships in between Raids. If you can have your ships arrive properly, you can alternate sides so the pirates spend a lot of time flying back and forth, instead of shooting.

Necro, just got this game. Well, the full legal copy of it. Anyone know of any good mods for this?

Like a B5 or SW or ST BSG mod?

That one requires Entrenchment, which I don't have.

I was just wondering if anyone had any mods they liked?

Never tried.

Theres a star trek mod on ModDB which looks promising, and is for the original game.

Very cool. I'll have to look for it. Then try to figure out how it works.

11:53 in and I've taken over about 3/4 of a 50 point galaxy against 8 other players.

13:36:00 and I've won the game. Defeated all other players and have the whole tech tree finished. That was greatness.

Deep, take a look at this mod.
Star Trek: Sacrifice of Angels 2

You need to have the latest version of the game, meaning you'll have to update via the Impulse system (Like steam but less intrusive). It's a work in progress, but the models and most of the voice acting is all done, all the weapons are balanced, new music and all. They have yet to replace some stations, and to get the tech trees sorted.
