Mikey, this woman has an IQ of 77 and was obviously suffering from depression. I'm surprised she was able to cllean her own ass. And yes it is abuse, just not the classic kind.

I'm of the mind that anyone with 45% of my IQ should be watched very closely, especially if there are children involved. Shame there's no money for something like that...

In this context what I am saying is that she wasn't actively abusing the girl. She wasn't hitting her, raping her, burning her, etc.

And in a saner country the parent would have been watched more closely, there's been more than a few cases up here where a mentally retarded individual has had their children seized. Way back when (pre-1980) they used to sterilize these individuals to prevent a burden on the state (and various less noble reasons).

Less noble, perhaps, but it really would be in the best interest of everyone to prevent people like that from breeding in the first place. I know, very cold. However, the fact that she probably can't wipe her own ass says to me she should never have been responsible for a child.

The poor girl is wrecked for life, and the woman gets to continue going about her pathetic, moronic, irresponsible life, as if she'd done nothing wrong... I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem reasonable to me.

The only important thing is that the child is safe and that her rights are waived. This woman will likely not accomplish or even cause many more problems (you know being retarded and all), the state will be watching her for the rest of her life. And she's last about a year or so in prison.

I have no problems with this once I got over my intial "fry her" reaction. The world is seldom fair and this is likely the best we can hope for.

I agree that at least Dani is somewhere safe, where people actually care enough to try to help her. The real villain here is the f*cked up social aid system.
