But if all that did happen, then I could understand...

Ya...it's hard for even me to come up with an excuse for it. And that's saying something, cause I can come up with some weird stuff. Not as weird as Deep's rolling phaser emitter idea which wasn't even a necessary explination, but still, I can usually come up with something.
I think a more reasonable is that weapons are powerful enough that taking cover doesn't work, but even that doesn't work considering the only time we've seen phasers penetrate solid objects like that is when the plot calls for it, like cutting through something or for comedic effect, like when Quark was hiding in a safe, which you would think would stand up to weapons better then the crates not even being burnt or scratched by the same beams.Cpl Kendall wrote:I can only surmise that the entire military records of Earth and it's local allies were destroyed in a horrible fire related accident and all military personel and hobbyists became Terry Schivo at the same time. What annoys you about Sovs?ChakatBlackstar wrote:Let's see what annoys me in trek, in no particular order
Lack of explination for stuff that leads to idiotic fanboy ideas(see Deepcrush's rolling phaser ideas)
TNG
Q
Deanna Troi
Kendall
Picard
Data
people complaining about Enterprise
Soverign-class ships
Did I mention TNG?
You have to admit, though, she can look pretty foxy in that skin-tight suit.Teaos wrote: Kira
IMO it's one butt-ugly ship. It's also armed to the teeth which takes us away from Starfleet's primary purpose.Captain Picard's Hair wrote:What annoys you about Sovs?ChakatBlackstar wrote:Let's see what annoys me in trek, in no particular order

And your not one, everyone one-off ship seems like your dream uber ship.
Even if there weapons were as powerful as all that (and as you say they aren't), it still makes sense to take cover simply to make it harder to hit you.ChakatBlackstar wrote:

Not fanboy, just fan.Oh I also forgot fanboys*glares at Deepcrush*.
Even people who don't know that going in get real quick to kiss dirt the first a live round goes off near them.Given that the humble packing crate seems to be invulnerable to phasers, I think taking cover is just freaking common sense. I've never fired a gun in my life, and despite that I'd still know that cover = life.
