That depends entirely on where it came from. Mercury can get easily trapped in inland water bodies. I wouldn't recommend fish from the Pacific Northwest, for example. The mecury doesn't go anywhere, its in the soil at the bottom of rivers and lakes and just gets stirred around, and is present in much of the fish.

Certain types of fish seem to store it better. A higher position on the food chain can create higher levels, also - shark can have very high concentrations, as can tuna. My wife and I were both very disappointed that I was able to make her my famous ahi steaks when she was pregnant.

Yes, thanks. There are plenty of dishes that she would be disappointed that I'd be able to make, but my tuna steaks are actually good.
