'Alien' has a haunting, harrowing, brooding, conspiratory menace, in the shadows of the sterile hulled ship, and 'Aliens' has the gunho jingoistic fun of swarm bashing, always thought that 'Alien 3' was a little dull and that 'Alien Resurrection' with its space misfits, would have had been substantially better with a more sinister prothesis for the hybrid.
Read: Ridley Scott, then amusing shoot-'em-up, then everything else.

At least, that's my take.

My take on them is basicaly this:
Alien: Great sci-fi horror film, with one of the most unique creatures ever created, and decent plot.
Aliens: Great action film, cool plot, pretty explosions, brought down slightly when you realise the protagonists wouldn't be in that situation were it not for a ridiculous chain of events.
Alien 3: An attempt at recreating Alien. Boring plot, non-sensical premise, no action, but fairly good ending.
Alien Resurrection: An attempt at recreating both Alien and Aliens that failed horribly. Stupid premise, idiotic characters, boring 'dramatic' moments, 2-D personalities and craptastic ending. Attempted to create it's own unique, horrifying moster. It failed horribly.

Totally agreed, Rochey. H.R. Giger would be rolling in his grave if he saw the last 2 sequels.

As I said, there's a Scott movie, then there's everything else. Except Kingdom of Heaven - even Van Gogh must have poked a hole in a canvas once in a while.[/i]

Just got back in town from a great trip to Austin; I got to hang out with one of my best friends who I haven't seen in a while.

Good luck from me as well, Bryan.
