I was told that joke by Ian when I was 10. I didn't work out why it is funny until I was 15. When I cracked it, I laughed my ass off for half an hour straight.

Yes, but that would be true of any joke you have ever had explained to you. Basically, if you don't get it on your own it's not going to be as funny.
