Yeah, the money thing is probably the most contradictory thing ever put into the show. And the explanations fans come up with, including mine, are probably the most convoluted ones offered.
If there's ever a sequel show, I hope they just drop the whole idea. Or retcon it by mentioning some cultural change that reintroduced money.
