Indeed, I didn't get your reply myself until Hewer explained what he meant.

"You've all been selected for this mission because you each have a special skill. Professor Hawking, John Leslie, Phil Neville, the Wu-Tang Clan, Usher, the Sugar Puffs Monster and Daniel Day-Lewis! Welcome to Operation MindFuck!"

well uh, you did say you were leaving. We can always make some rather insane story about Q reviving you because 'your task on this plane of existence is not yet complete'Deepcrush wrote:Yes, i was going to leave and then come back.

I think we're getting a bit of the problem with the ranks, and I think now that it's sorted, we shouldn't be basing it on the forum ranks (due to them constantly changing and maybe not going inline with the story, especially regarding people's roles on the ship). No offence Teaos, but a science officer as second officer on a military ship?
We've worked well round that with all the sensor and equipment analysists, but I think we need to sort out the command structure. How about;
Name: Andrew Fletcher
Role: Commanding Officer, USS Daystrom
Rank: Captain
Name: Andyeskovene Rocheineskina
Role: Exchange First Officer, USS Daystrom
Rank: Commander
Name: Teaos Whitshire
Role: Science Officer
Rank: Commander
Name: M'karn W'trisk
Role: Chief of Operations
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Name: Nicholas Seafort
Role: Chief Engineer
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Name: Jonathan Hewer
Role: Chief Tactical Officer
Rank: Lieutenant
Name: Jack Ryson
Role: Chief of Security
Rank: Lieutenant Junior Grade
Name: Blackstar
Role: Chief Helmsman
Rank: Lieutenant Junior Grade
Name: Alexis Harrison
Role: Ambassador
Rank: Irrelevant
Name: Sarin Taal
Role: Chief Medical Officer
Rank: Irrelevant
This allows for people to be promoted when the story/character requires it, not when you get a certain amount of posts. What do we think?

We all have to remember that role-playing should take precedence over rank here - of course, there will be times when pulling or respecting rank will be required for character interaction, but it shouldn't be the end-all, be-all.
DarkOmen, for example - I believe that CMO's do in fact have rank. However, no matter what that rank is, the CMO will not be assuming a command function on a starship (unless she's trapped in a shrinking static warp bubble, but that's ridiculous, right?). Conversely, even if your rank were ensign, you could still order the captain off the bridge for medical reasons. I have a CPO who would ocassionally gice orders to ensigns - that is a function of his assigned position, not of his rank (or grade, in his case.)

Which really is why I think it needs sorting, as we need to sort out our ranks to suit the story.Mikey wrote:We all have to remember that role-playing should take precedence over rank here - of course, there will be times when pulling or respecting rank will be required for character interaction, but it shouldn't be the end-all, be-all.

This is only moderately relevant, BUT:
I can perhaps make a video of any space battles our little Akira class comes across using ST:Legacy. I'm not a naff editor either, and if you'd like a sample of my work, get me on MSN:

Cool. That would be pretty nice, to have a visual to go along with it.

I'm the lowest ranking officer of relevant rank? That bites.Thorin wrote:I think we're getting a bit of the problem with the ranks, and I think now that it's sorted, we shouldn't be basing it on the forum ranks (due to them constantly changing and maybe not going inline with the story, especially regarding people's roles on the ship).
