Truth to tell, if not for the girl would later become my wife, that story could have very well been about me. Unfortunately, one of the hallmarks of that sort of depression is resistance to anything that might help.

As far as latest in my life, I just finished dropping $3700 on airfare, hotel, park tickets, and a character breakfast reservation. As an adult (struggling) middle-class American father, I am now fulfilling my obligation to take my daughter to Disney World. A little trite, I know, but she was so excited when I told her that she almost started crying. That made the cost a lot easier to take.

BTW, I'll be gone the first full week of November.

We drove to Cleveland, OH last year - about 10 hours straight through - and my daughter was OK, but we had to make a lot of potty/stretch/eat stops. Doing that to Florida would take two days off of our vacation.

Besides, two hours of flight = nap; 12-14 hours of driving = high blood pressure.

We once drove about 8 hr IIRC across New York State to Niagara Falls for a vacation (about the longest car trip I recall taking); our first trip to Orlando when I was a child we did by Amtrak train. The plane ride the second time was much faster and more pleasant. Getting to WIldwood near the Southern tip of Joizey takes about 2 hours from here by car.
