Actually it sounds to me more like he considers the whole practice of war immoral and that everybody should just disarm and get along. But until that happens we should just settle for looking down on soldiers as voluntary killers/murderers.

Pardon me for interrupting this lovely and informative ideological debate, but what does any of this have to do with Gay Marriage?

Sod all, other than its political. TR-116 syndrome isn't limited to sci-fi discussions. 8)

Nothing but I think that topics run the course unless you're opposed to gay marriage. We don't actually have anyone against it. I was the closest as I felt I knew why many were against it. I laid out the reasons, they don't like them, and thats pretty much all there is to it.

I suppose if you really want to get back on topic you could try starting an argument that pedastery proves people can be turned gay. Or maybe go find some socioeconomic data or birthrate demographics from countries with gay marriage. But you'd actually have to go out and find some researched numbers for that.

Didn't think so.

this is one of the things that i think TR-116 should not have infected. I'm quite passionate about the Gay marriage thing. And i'll argue the hell with someone who wants to deny homosexuals marriage.

Having said that, i'm not sure if i'd actually want to get married to my partner.

Well enough. Why don't you go find some and invite them to come here? I don't think this so much TR-116ed as it did peter out and then go a different direction.

Actually I've done that on other boards. I used to be on a political board and after the Kosovo things I wanted to hear from the people there so I mucked around Serb and Albanian message boards a bit linking back to the US political forum. Worked pretty well.

I certainly understand (and agree) with your position... but you're right: at the age of 13, you shouldn't be worried about marriage at all, gay or otherwise.

When you say "the Kosovo thing" do you mean the war or the declaration of independence earlier this year?

Ooh, sticky subject. Did you get to hear all the theories on the NATO bombing and whatnot as well?

Oh goodness yes. The Albanians and serbs started laying into each other, then they brought their friends. Must have been at least 50 threads started (one every time there was some update of the situation and one for every nuance, for example would we support a free Quebec, and all about the atrocities of the Albanians etc etc etc). And then eventually the moderaters figured out what the racial slurs meant and there were repeated rounds of temp bannings.

I happend to be in Times Square on the day of the Kosovar declaration of independence, and witnessed the parade/celebration. It was only later, after talking to my sister-in-law who is fairly fluent in Old Slavonic, that we figured out some of the epithets that were being mentioned.

I can believe it. For a time Canada played host to both Serb and Kosovar Albanian refugees, they didn't get along and there were numerous assualts and murders because of it. The base I was posted at housed a number of them, if you think the ME treats their woman badly you should see these guys.

One of the later editions of The Joy of Sex actually describes a position known as "Serbian rape."
