Boush was looking through the extensive armory for something that looked like an appropiate weapon for a slave driver. Everything was too civilized He decided he would have to have one of the engineering replicators make one for him.

Looking through the ship's databanks he found himself looking at a medieval klingon weapon.

Taking a typical stainless steel chassis for the barrel and stock it came with a handle with a standard trigger whille the other hand held onto a handguard at the base of the barrel. The handguard had cooling holes around the weapon to keep it from overheating, a relatively primitive design. It was unique in its bayonet though. While many cultures had developed bayonets the Klingons had the most painful looking ones. Jetting out in a narrow half crescent from the bottom of the barrel to form mandibles like an insect would have they were jagged and lined with diamond, or as close as Boush could get on the ship. Easily able to slice through any substance of their day they were expensive weapons by any means.

The shot itself was a condensed plasma incased in a projectile requiring the need for an unwelding magazine leaving the right of the weapon. Each magazine was designed so that it could be used as a club if the bayonets were insufficient.

After the weapon had been replicated, Boush replicated some blood and splattered the weapon's bayonets and side with it. Then after sure the blood had dried took it to the hyponotics bay and made sure it was nice and dirty.

"This shall suffice." Boush grinned after hours of work looking over his blood and dirt covered steel rifle. It was deffiantly not Federation standard.

His security crew had managed to build several concealable knives into shoe soles and belts for the rest of the away team. "Ensign Munro to Commander Rochey, weapons are ready for the away team."

* door chime sounds*

'Enter' was said by captain Fletcher, thus granting the visitor access to his ready room.
"Dr. Taal, you wanted to see me."
Dr. Sarin Taal answered:"Yes, captain, I would like to discuss the situation on one of the 'passengers' present on the Daystrom."
"You mean the Breen we last found?"
"No, it is about the occupant of 1-3-4-Alpha."
"Hmm, is there a problem with him?"
"Well, I would like to continue a medical diagnose of him, but I would have to bring him out of his stasis and his coma. I might even want to revive him."
"You know that this is not an ideal place for reviving long thought to be dead persons. Tholian Space, beraly recovering from the Dominion war, Borg incursions, uprisings in Starfleet and so on. Do you really wish to put that boy into this world, completely alien to him, with all of his references to his past gone? Then we must know we are facing an ethical problem as well. Things we consider barbaric, are normal to him. Do we need to re-educate him on a moral plane? And his education? he has missed 373 years."
"Well, you do present quite some obstacles, including some which I haven't even thought of as of now. however, the education problem could be solved slightly better than re-educating him. like most people of his time, he also has a drug plug, in the back of his neck, for injection of leisure drugs. However, this plug has been modified to keep his brains in an artificial coma. I could rebuild the plug with a little help from engineering to an active datalink with the computer."
"You know it doesn't solve everything. Knowledge alone is not sufficient. Understanding what you know is even more important than having knowledge, I suppose."
"If you would give your permission to revive him, please postpone it for a while. I need time to adapt to these cirumstances and to make up my mind. Something else on this subject is his mental condition. You have read it in my report."
"he has autism, variant asperger, isn't it?"
"Confirmed, captain, I spotted it while charting his neural pathways."
"What effects does it have on the behaviour and mental condition of this subject?"
"His social skills could be inhibited, but his mind, reasoning and knowledge might be increased. Medical records from that period and before that indicated that the condition was known since aproximately 1944, but was negated until 1981. Since then, some research has been conducted, but eugenics war gave things a twist and it ended up as an 'unwnated'condition."
"Nowadays you know autism in all of its gradations can be 'cured' by certain techniques, but still bears the same controversy it had back then. However, he is not from our time. Once again, will you be able to council and guide him properly?"
"I will have to think about it catain. But please allow me to say that this conversation has put a new light onto the circumstances. You have been very helpful captain."

"Okay Jimmy, I need you to plug this in over there," said Blackstar. The eager young ensign, who everyone tended to like, quickly took the power cord and plugged it in, only to be sent flying the other way by the electrical shock. Blackstar's sensitive nose detected smoke, and shi looked around for its source. "Jimmy? What happened? Are you okay?"

"I'm okay. I can't feel my limbs but I'm okay. Maybe your new toy will be able to help out with that," teased Jimmy.

Blackstar glared at Jimmy, "Toy? And what is that supposed to mean?"

"You and the EMH of coarse," said Jimmy. "The whole ship's talking about it."

"Jimmy, ever been digested?" Jimmy shook his head no. "Then I'd suggest you not insult Silvertail again. Unless you want to end up like the last Jimmy I killed."

"Digested?"

"Nope. I tore out his skull and beat him to death with it," said Blackstar.

"That doesn't seem physically possible."

"That's exactly what he kept saying." Blackstar showed no hint of a smile, or any sign that shi was joking. "Now get going, I'm just about done with this anyway." As Ensign Jimmy ran out Blackstar could smell that he had soiled himself.

The object Blackstar was working on was finally finished. "A quick but decent job. I just hope the quartz commander agrees with my dicission to build this. Sally, how does it look on your scans?"

"All systems should operate as designed. Should I bring hir in now?"

"Yes," said Blackstar.

The object, elliptical in shape began hovering in the air and positioned itself a few feet from the ground. A form began to take shape around it until the ship's EMH finally appeared. Shi looked around, confused by hir surroundings. "Blacky? What program are we in?"

"We're not," said Blackstar. "This is deck 17 cargo bay."

Silvertail's eyes widened, "but... there aren't any holoemitters on that deck."

Blackstar beamed with pride, "that's why I created a mobile emitter. It's crude compared to the one used by Voyager's EMH but it grants you near unlimited movement on the ship. I've wired the system to feed from the EPS conduits on board. It's also compatible with Klingon, Cardassian, and Romulan technology and has a 16 hour battery life. It also has a recharager system that will recharge the battery in 8 hours if there's no outside source. Basically you're as mobile as any non-hologram now. Even more so since you don't need oxygen. The emitter is hidden by your holographic form, but if it does get hit it'll shut down to protect your program. Luckily most people tend to shoot at the upper torso for some reason. What do you think?"

"This is incredible. I don't know what to say. How could you come up with something like this so quickly?"

Blackstar shrugged, "back on my old ship our only medic was an EMH, who was no where near as sophisticated or as pretty as you are. Our engineer began work on a mobile emitter but due to our technological limitations we never got it to work right. When we got a real medic we abandoned the project. Luckily the Daystrom's technology was advanced enough for a feasible portable emitter."

"And you remembered it all from memory?"

"uh...sure. Let's go with that." Blackstar's hand unconsciously covered the Quadcorder at hir hip, where the real designs had come from. "And since this means you can now serve as a field medic the quartz commander shouldn't get too angry about it. I'm sure there would be a stick up his rear, if I knew for certain he had one."

Silvertail laughed, "he can't be that bad."

"Why don't you follow me to the mission briefing and you can find out. I'm sure his anger will be felt through half the quadrent when he first finds out. He kind of reminds me of my father. Boy, I hope doesn't sleep with my best friend, like my father did."

"That doesn't even seem physically possible," said Silvertail.

Blackstar shrugged, "well that's what everyone says about how I killed Sargent Jimmy back home but he's dead anyway."

"Let's not tell the story again," said Silvertail. "Come on. I want to see people freak out when they see a second Chakat walking around."

"Personal log, M'karn W'trisk.

"Getting closer to the launch of our away mission to the Tholian slaver encampment, and I'm anxious to be doing something proactive. With the help of engineering, we've completed production of concealable comm/locator units; I've also forwarded a simple dot-dash code to Commander Rochey - one which he can transmit directly to me using his physiological transmission capacity and my antennae.

"Munro still concerns me, although I do believe that the responsibility of the mission and his new position will certainly be a positive factor. I guess it's jsut me - it wasn't very long ago that I had standing orders to shoot Breen on sight. We all know what the Romulans say, but I may very well have to turn my back on this Breen with full confidence very soon.

"Minnsky is another concern. We still don't know who he's been since his Starfleet record ended, or what in the three frozen hells he was doing out here. The doctor's search was thorough, but raises more questions than it answers. Who would have tried to hide his neurological condition, and why? I suppose this is Rochey's concern rather than mine, but I don't like going afield with all these questions unanswered."

*sigh* "Computer - end log entry. Has the Captain set a time for MetalHead's funeral?"

*beep* "No parameters for memorial service set."

"OK," said Mikey, grabbing a towel in preparation to performing his moko'moko fighting-style katas. As a thought came to him, he touched his comm badge. "Gunny? Can you do something for me on the DL?"

Mikey could hear Sharkey's grin through the comm. "Count on it, sir."

"Good. I want you to conduct every passive scan there is on Minnsky's craft. Let me be clear: PASSIVE scans only. I want no evidence left on that shuttle of ever having been scanned. Understood?"

"Perfectly, sir," replied Sharkey, "but what am I looking for?"

"I don't know, Gunny. Any sort of clue - where he's been, what he's been carrying, who he's talked to... anything is better than nothing."

Mikey began to perform his ritual excercises, more to clear his mind than to improve his body. The mission issues he could live with, as long as he was starting to do something about them. But why in the icy hells did the Chakat's new relationship with the EMH bother him so much? He wasn't close to making a claim on hir, nor had they even come close to physicality - he wasn't even sure about the viability of intimacy with the great Chakat without incurring some severe joint damage. Whatever the reason, though, the idea continued to get Mikey's grell'nors in a twist.

The walk to the conference room was quiet. Peabody wouldn't answer any question about Daystrom and likewise Metler wouldn't answer any about Wells. For the duration of the trip Metler checked the security of his ship. It wasn't too complex but complex enough that it would muddle most any invasion. The door was locked by a random code, one that even Minnsky didn't know. There was no bio signature, or eye scans needed to get in just the code. It was stored, along with his trycorder components, in a shielded portion of his leg. On exiting the ship it would transmit the code to his chip. He never saw it or really thought about it. The hull was what had to be checked. Even a passive scan could detect the strange power flow, and there was no real way he could hide it, just limit its strangeness. The holo emitters were designed to work with the hull nanites and shield the most strange power signatures, and most importantly the storage compartments. Metler once again cursed the fate that had made it mandatory to have such a small computer on wells. If he had a bigger one then the storage would be unnecessary. They came apon the turbo lift and Minnsky paused. Turning to Peabody "The Bridge, do we have to cross through the Bridge? I would rather not if we could." A small hint of surprise flashed over the mans face.
"Unfortunately we do."
"I see." Entering the lift Minnsky went back to his work. He had moved on to deep scan prevention. It was easer acculy. The computer would intercept the scan through the hull and then return normal type 9 shuttle specks. The lift doors opened to the bridge, the site to any other person would be beautiful, they would stand for a few second in awe of it. Minnsky did not; he burred deeper into his PADD. If there had been a telepath in range they would have picked up his fear. "I never found much reason for bridges, you can do anything up here in engineering. Better even." The comment was to no one in particular.
As they entered the conference room Metler looked up. It was smaller then that of the Carpathia, bigger then the Grensh, but then Oberth classes didn't have conference rooms.
The room was already occupied. On the left standing at what had to be assumed attention was a Breen, Minnsky smiled 'Never turn your back on a Breen,' reg'tr would say 'or a federation warp engine.' Working the display was the blue skinned ops officer. To his right the Tholian. Metler sighed he hoped to high heaven he didn't have a mission with the thing, if any Tholians found out he was Xene the situation could become hazardous. Minnskys eyes then fell on two people that made his skin crawl. It wasn't because they were ugly, on the contrary he found them utterly fascinating. The problem was one of them wasn't acculy there and the other shouldn't have been. His trycorder told him that the first was a hologram, on some type of mobile emitter. The second was incorrect; the signatures were not of this universe. He tuned his trycorder out by numbing the nerve receptors and took the cue to sit. He sat on the right side farthest from the display. The seats were comfortable. He then looked at his PADD. In his code information on the new alien streamed past. It was fascinating; he had only had this type of opportunity once before when the U.R.A Spytanic had visited this universe. Through his emersion he missed the Tholian say his name, Peabody shook his hand in front of his eyes and he scowled looking up. "Yes." All eyes were on him.
"I asked if you would tell us about why you think you can help us." The Tholian returned. Metler looked back at his PADD
"Yes, well I have basic mapping of 10 worlds, extensive mapping of 5 and sensor hits of over 20. My time in this space has given me the opportunity to encounter multiple space anomalies, some you cant see unless your looking the right way. The Tholians know how to see most, but I doubt they shared tec." he glanced at the ops man and smiled.
"How did you get it." The Tholian responded emphasizing the you.
"I bought it." It was a lie, Minnksy could see a shift in the Andorians antenna.
"I thought you said that you have been on a mining station." The Andorian said crossing his arms.
"Yes, I have gotten myself around one once, that's were I met my contact for the info purchase." Minnskys hart sunk, they were going to take him to a mining station.
"I see." The Tholian said. Minnsky went back to his PADD. "If I could have your attention, I would like to continue." Minnsky looked up, relieved that things had moved on.

"Let me get this strait. You've actually died?" asked ensign Jimmy. The ensign and a number of junior officers were listening to Blackstar's stories.

Blackstar nodded, "I was physically dead for twenty years. I took a shredder blast here and here." Shi pointed at hir mid upper body and hir forward lower body.

"Shredder?" asked Silvertail.

"Possibly one of the most devastating weapons I've ever been hit with. Unlike Phasers and disrupters, a shredder leaves the outer body intact. The organs and other internal components are 'shredded' like a thousand little razor blades slicing them up. It takes five seconds for it to finish. Another centimeter lower, and I wouldn't have been able to reproduce. That would've been devastating on a 16 year-old." explained Blackstar "The only way for them to save me was a type of stasis. Twenty years later a rather ingenious idea let them revive me. My original universe's transporters work very differently from yours. Matter transportation was easy enough but the mind has to be stored in a mind matrix. That was discovered the hard way."

"What do you mean?" asked Jimmy.

"A young over-eager scientist made the mistake of going through the first operational transporter. Shi was dumber then a new born cub. A cub even learns a little in the womb. Shi eventually was retaught everything but shi was compleatly different from hir pre-accident self. Renamed Chakat Nova," explained Blackstar. "The point is that a scientist came up with an idea to get my mind into a mind matrix and keep it stable long enough for them to repair my body. Then they put my mind back were it belonged." What Blackstar didn't say was how much shi lost during the 20 years. Hir sire and mother had separated, hir various friends had all sorts of mishaps, many that shi had to fix.

Silvertail wrapped hir tail around Blackstar's. "I for one am glad that they saved you. After that I guess there isn't anything you're afraid of."

Blackstar nuzzled the EMH, "that's not true. I have three major fears. 1)losing my mates, 2)leaving my mates withot support, and 3) death by chocolate."

Jimmy looked around before saying, "I'll ask this one. Death by chocolate?"

Blackstar nodded, "I had a bad experience."

"What happened?"

Much louder Blackstar said, "I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE! Are you deaf?"

Kissing Silvertail, earning the 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs' from many crewmembers and at least one 'get a room', Blackstar said, "I got to go to the briefing."

"Do you have to go?" asked Silvertail.

"Well, the other guys aren't exactly the dream team, and I'm about the only one who doesn't hate that Tholian, and I'm the best pilot ever, and I'm a freaking genius. Besides, I need a reason to use my catchphrase, 'It's yipee-kiya time!'," Said Blackstar.

"In public you mean?" asked Silvertail.

"Yep," said Blackstar. Shi kept hir tail entertwined with Silvertail's as long as shi could as shi walked away. "As long as you're around love, I'll have a reason to come back. And I will come back. That's a promise."

"I see." The Tholian said. Minnsky went back to his PADD. "If I could have your attention, I would like to continue." Minnsky looked up, relieved that things had moved on.
Continuing from here

"As you know, the Captain has ordered an away mission to a nearby planet." As Rochey spoke, he tapped at a control panel, bringing up a picture of the planet on a display screen. "The planet is known as Loson, and is a lightly populated class M planet. Initial scans lead us to believe it is a slave trading outpost, and as such they will be less than pleased to see a group of non-Tholians walking around on the planet. Because of this, a disguise will be necassary. I will be going as a slave trader, and the rest of you will be prisoners captured from a destroyed ship I picked up a couple days ago. As such, make sure any weapons you bring with you are well hidden. Otherwise you will probably just be shot on sight by the guards."

He paused for a moment to make sure everyone was still following him, then tapped at another control, replacing the picture of Loson with a roster of the crewmembers who were going with him.

"All of you in this room will be going, either becuase you volunteered or because I've decided to bring you along for one reason or another. Participation in this mission is mandatory, and you will not be getting out of it for any reason, save for an order from the captain, or a medical problem verified by Doctor Taal.
I will be leading the mission. Lieutenant Commander W'trisk will act as second in command. Lieutenant Blackstar will act as pilot and scout. Harrison will be going, as it may be usefull to have a diplomat if things go badly. Minnsky will be going as he claims to have some knowledge of the area. The rest of you," He said, gesturing vaguely at the Breen and the five security personel "will be acting as security."

He tapped at another control, and brought up a map of the general area they were going to investigate.

"We will be landing here." He said, pointing at a large-ish facility in the center of the map. "The facility is only moderately guarded, but we will still need to be carefull not to get ourselves discovered. There are some unusual power sources coming from the center of the facility, scans can not determine what these are. That will be one of our objectives; to investigate what it is. Our other objective will be to gather as much information on what is going on in the area as possible. Lieutenant W'trisk has procured some concealable communicators for you to use, so we shouldn't have much problems in that area. Aside from that, what you bring with you is up to you. Just make sure you can conceal it well."

He paused and looked around the room.

"Any questions?"

One of the scurity team members, Joe, put up his hand.

"Will there be any medical personel comming with us?"

"Unfortunately, no. None of the medical staff have voluntered for the mission, and I am unwilling to force any of them to come with us, as this is a high risk mission.
That reminds me of another point. The mission plan initialy called for Lieutenant Ryson to acompany us. But due to his inconvinient death, we are short one person. If any of you know of someone who would like to acompany the mission, or who any of you think it would be a good idea to bring along, then tell them to meet with me later on.
The mission leaves in two days, at 1600. I would have prefered to leave sooner, but the Captain... requested that I delay our departure so that any members of the away team who wish to may attend Lieutenant Ryson's funeral, tommorow evening."

That was pretty much everything he had wanted to mention, so he decided to finish the briefing off.

"Is there any other questions, or anything any of you would like to mention?"
"You've all been selected for this mission because you each have a special skill. Professor Hawking, John Leslie, Phil Neville, the Wu-Tang Clan, Usher, the Sugar Puffs Monster and Daniel Day-Lewis! Welcome to Operation MindFuck!"

Minnsky nodded. "Whats our story? Most slaves are from freighters or colonels. They have a comrodery, some places form clans, captains of freighters take the lead. the guards encourage it. I would suggest one that makes us with out a captain, we could get in a clan fast that way. I think the S.S Hemptry was around here a week or so back."

*some time after the briefing and funeral/memorial service*

"What do you think?" Blackstar was modeling a pair of Egyptian style gauntlets.

"Attractive," said Silvertail. "I wouldn't be able to tell they were phasers. Were did you get this idea?"

"At Starfleet Academy my roommate worked up some drawing for the idea. I was able to make it work. A neural link in the wrist prevents me from ever mis-firing these suckers. And the Boronike plating styled in ancient Egyptian style will prevent scans or eyes from detecting the phasers." Blackstar was rather proud of the gauntlets.

"Impressive," said Silvertail, "you are full of surprises."

Blackstar nodded, "I learned that it's always a good idea to have a few tricks up your sleeve." Shi raised hir left arm and a knife sized blade flew from the arm, rotating and growing in mid-air. Shi grabbed the hilt of the now sword-sized blade in mid-air and swung the blade around with great dexterity. The Blade shrank and Blackstar hid it back in hir sleeve.

"Retractable sword? Interesting. For someone who claims that shi's from a peaceful species you have a lot of interesting weapons."

A sad look crossed Blackstar's face. "Chakats aren't built for war, but if we need to fight we're as fierce as a Rakshani warrier."

"Rakshani?" inquired Silvertail.

"Oh, right." Blackstar occasionally forgot that Silvertail was unfamiliar with the Chakat universe. "Think 7 foot tall anthro tigers. Sort of like Klingons, but with bigger hearts and better hygiene."

"Well, in any case. You should be able to bring enough of yourself back so that I can keep you from dying," teased Silvertail. Shi hugged Blackstar and said, "Please come back."

"Hey, it's me."

"That's why I'm worried," said Silvertail.

"I gotta go. I'll be back soon," said Blackstar. Shi kissed Silvertail and left.

On the way shi met up with Mikey. "How's shi doing? The EMH I mean."

"Shi's worried. I'm not sure why," said Blackstar.

"We're about to walk to a slave trading outpost where, if we're discovered we will die. And we're putting all our faith in a commander who may stab us in the back who will be holding us as prisoners," said Mikey.

Blackstar shrugged it off. "When I was younger that's what we would do on a slow Tuesday. I remember that on one particularly bad day I ended up as a 'pet' for almost a month. Other times I've ended up being beaten, torn up, and left for dead. I may look like an overgrown pussy cat, but I'm no pussy. Remember that."

Rochey nodded. Maybe W'trisk had been right to suggest Minnsky for the mission.
"Good thinking. We, or rather you, can use that as a cover story. Say the ship was attacked by some unknown pirates, most of the officers were killed. I picked you up in an escape pod a few days later. I doubt any one will really check to verify it. Try and get as much information from the other prisoners as you can, as quickly as you can."

He looked around the room once more.

"Is there any other comments or questions?"

Boush nodded that he had a comment, "I assembled a mercenary weapon that is not starfleet issued for Commander Rochey to use if he desires to. It has no stun setting so I would only shoot red shirts besides myself with it."

The Commander was momentarily thrown off by that; he hadn't particularly expected the Breen to be particularly helpful, particularly not to him.

"Er..right. I will take a look at that later." He stood up. "If there is nothing else...?"

Boush slowly turned his head oddly at the strange annoying creature. Then went back to attention. Boush was glad he had scored some points with the commander. In truth he had made the weapon for himself thinking that he would be used as a Slave Guard but he was able to roll with the punches well. The Federation would never allow a Breen to carry a weapon and beat them with it anyway.

Once Rochey had answered a few more questions and the meeting had been dismissed Boush organized the security personel that would be going with them. It was time he addressed them as their new leader.

"Listen up warm bloods and liquid filled gasterous bags of rotting meat. I am your new commanding officer for security. Yes I am Breen and we've all heard the Romulan saying about Breens. You can't turn your back on us they say. We're untrustworthy they say. We are also formidable warriors and skilled officers. If any of you liquidoids utter a single derogatory slur about my species then I will show you the true meaning of the Romulan saying.

Boush hit a button and a 3d graphic of the landing zone appeared. "We will be dressed as slaves. And as such normal federation protocol says we should put on some makeup to make ourselves look malnurished and beaten up. Well tough. I've only got two days to work with so I'll do what I can. And believe me, I don't believe in make up.
