Yeah. If you want to help animal welfare (which is very different than animal rights) you should see about helping your local shelter. Most of the national organizations are animal rights organizations, which equals crazy. PETA is just the worst of them.

PETA and Greenpeace aldeserve to die slow and painful deaths for the crimes they have commited against nature and humanity (I'm not joking)
Don't forget the Sierra Club and Earth First, either, Teaos. The FBI catagorizes them both as extremist, terrorist groups (I'm not kidding). Right up there with vegans, those self-righteous salad-sh*tters always trying to shove their beliefs of "eating meat and other animal byproducts is evil; no leather or fur!" Damn it, I love meat! I love leather! My dad is a journeyman-level meat cutter (not butcher, meat cutter, there is a difference), and we were raised in Texas, so that's probably where I get my distain for these guys. I don't see them picketing an Indian reservation for using leather for teepees or feathers for their headress! I'm all for saving the environment. I'm sure I'm not the only one who recycles, though I recycle bottles and cans for the extra spending money. We even replaced our lightbulbs in our house with those compact flourescent lights. But humans as a species are omnivores, meaning we eat both meat and veggies. Just look at our teeth for proof. If vegans want to eat rabbit food, that's fine, but don't force your beliefs on everyone else. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go eat a big porterhouse steak and wear my dead animal leather jacket!
And yeah, I've also known for a while that PETA sucks major portions of hypocritical A** for their treatment of animals. I had a beautiful Aussie Shepard/border collie mix a couple of years ago named Ziggy, but I had to get rid of him because my yard was too small for either of those breeds of dog. They need MAJOR room, like a couple of acres, minimum, and they are herding breeds, and Ziggy tried herding the girls and accidentally drew blood nipping Bethany's arm. Aimee suggested the local PETA shelter, and I had to keep from smacking her upside the head, and instead educated her about them. Instead, I went to a great animal shelter in Chico, just a twenty minute drive, and left him with them. And because of Ziggy's being of a border collie/Aussie shepard mix, if they didn't find him a home in 2 weeks of being dropped off, they would send him to a special shelter that deals specifically with border collies and mixes of such, and there they stay until they're adopted or until they die of natural causes, whichever happens first.

Whittington, got a spare seat at the dinner table? I'm feeling a bit hungry for a steak myself.

Absolutely, Striker. I like mine marinated in Italian dressing (don't knock it 'till ya try it!) with a pinch of salt.

Top sirloin for me, dry rubbed with a mix of onion, garlic, paprika, black pepper, and dry mustard. That's the way to go.

For every animal PETA 'saves', I'm gonna eat three.

As I've always said: If G-d didn't want us to eat cows, He would have made them faster or more dangerous.

"More dangerous"? I take it that you've never been chased by a bull then - if you had, I doubt you'd consider cows less dangerous than humans.

If whatever god made us didn't want us to eat cows.....he wouldn't have made cows at all.

I didn't say "more dangerous than US." Although, bulls haven't killed as many people as other people have... however, the intent was to mean "dangerous enough to stop raising them as livestock."

Fair enough. I'm simply a bit cautious around the things (except when they're in slices on my plate) having once had to do a runner from one. While carrying a Bergen. Not an experience I'd care to repeat.

So is alligator, moneybags, but more exotic meats tend to cost a great deal more. By me, chopped bison meat just went ON SALE for $4.49/lb., which is very roughly four times as expensive as 85% lean chopped beef. I can't even get farm-raised alligator in my part of the country, and I've never in my life seen emu meat for sale. Game is, well, game by its nature, so for farmed meat I'm pretty much restricted to beef, veal, pork, and poultry - lamb and mutton of course, too, but I personally don't care for it.

Once in a while I can buy rabbit around here, but I just don't possess the cooking skills to do rabbit correctly.

Fortunately, there's a Bison farm just up the valley. So it's pretty cheap around here. And there's a game farm in Ottawa where Emu is about three dollars a pound. But the alligator and various snakes are outlandish as are the ostrich eggs.

I've never had rabbit but it's around thirteen dollars a pound here. And the kids most likely won't be thrilled at a dead rabbit on the table.
