I've been to several Civil War battle sites with my family while we were in Europe, and it was a very powerful experience, just being there, seeing the remains of all of the German bunkers and machine gun positions at Omaha Beach, and realizing what it would have been like to charge up that beach...truly amazing. We also visited a cemetery, and, again, the sheer number of gravesites was staggering.

We never saw any of the major concentration camps, though we did visit a smaller one in Alsace, the Natzweiler-Struthof camp; the only concentration camp on French territory, if I remember correctly. Sobering, to say the least.

To all who died at Pearl Harbor, and also to all those who died in the other battles of that war, and those who were killed in concentration camps, Rest in Peace.

*Salutes*

If/when I ever make it to England and France, I'm gonna pay some of those cemeteries a visit and pay my respects to those who gave so much.
