Yeah - where I grew up, there are PLENTY of areas where the police won't go - except to get drugs and/or hookers.

You know what you guys need! You need some of my folks as cops up there! Well, some of them are cops but still! Nothing beats a hick cop! Theres a reason gangs don't come out to where we live!

All it takes is an oak tree, some rope and one person to do some evil to get there!

In seriousness, though, there are gangs and then there are gangs. If you're talking baout the real deal - La Casa Nostra, la famiglia, whatever you want to call it - friends of mine used to live in the East Village, directly across the street from one of Gotti's bars. Mob-controlled territory is some of the safest territory in NYC.

I can certainly believe that, as sad as it is.

The mobs still carry a great deal of respect out where I live. My father has known a number of former mob men, several made in fact. They were a proper form to crime, if there could ever be such a thing.

At least they had a code of honor. A few months back here in Houston, some poor guy was shot apparently at random sitting at a bus stop. 'Initiations' for these modern gangs often involve killing a random innocent person. That, folks, is something that does not sit well with me.

In New Brunswick, NJ - near where I lived - there was a gang who used to travel the streets at night in cars with no headlights on. When someone flashed their high beams at these lowlifes, they would follow the "offender" and kill him or her.

Really does make a case for vigilanteism, no?

They did that near where I lived for a while until a lady unloaded her shotgun into the car chasing her when they pulled up next to her. Thats what you need. Everyone carrying guns! Then the gangs won't be so tough when they have to face people that can defend themselves.

Yeah. All I need is to get Cheney'd because I brought my garbage can back from the curb half an hour after sunset.

Talk about a bad week, I wonder how these riots are going to end. No matter what, the French govt. must do something to make sure those riots don't happen again. No one likes a riot.
