Agreed. You have every right to do things wrong.

We do. We also have the right to humor you, and not correct you every time you write the date backwards.

In all seriousness - when you speak, do say "Today is eighteen May" or "Today is May eighteenth?" If the former, then your method of notation certainly matches your vernacular. If the latter, then even you must admit that your method is backwards from your own speech. It's funny to hear you say that our mannerism is "wrong" (even though I know it's a joke) because our notation matches our spoken usage.

I personally would say "Today is the 18th of May", I haven't really paid attention to what other people say specifically say.

The guy's crazy. Everyone knows The End is December 21, 2012.

I say "18th of May"... that's the standard way people would say it in the UK. It would a bit odd to say it's "May 18th".

Hmm, makes a bot more sense then. Around here, it would seem unwieldy to say "18th of May" instead of "May 18th."

I stopped writing down May 18, 2011 and started writing 18May11, which I learned from the Navy. But when speaking I say May 18th but I have said 18th of May once in awhile.

I've come across both forms. Though I generally prefer more compact forms this case is hardly the worst offender.

I would say 18th of May. Some of my generation have begun saying May 18th, but its generally not a common or accepted thing.

The only time I hear that usage commonly around here is in "the fourth of July," and that's only because it's become a sort of idiomatic proper noun in reference to Independence Day.

Its no fun when its what they want. Instead... I'm just going to reverse the pressure flow on his sewage.

One exception is that Brits use 9/11 for that day, purely because most references come from the US.

Funnily enough when London was bombed in 2005, it happened on 7/7 - nice and convenient for international use. Maybe we should ask terrorists to limit attacks to 1/1, 2/2, 3/3...

Nah, the end will be trillions of years in the future. But hopefully the Utopia Project will pull through...
