Apologies - I mixed up my dates. The SAA was the first centerfire handgun adopted by the Army... the "Schofield" S&W Model 3 was developed jointly with the Army to replace it, but the QM ended up burying it because they already had so much .45 LC on hand. The Colt could fire .45 S&W, but the S&W couldn't fire the Long Colt.

Since it was a modern version, it used modern ammo. Still an awesome handgun, though.

And what? As you may have heard, Colt produced more guns than the M1911. In fact, during the modern period of usage of the M1911 there's a lot less loyalty to the Colt brand - or to American-made handguns - than the picture you paint.

Again the key phrase was "Owning a Colt produced firearm" and not "Owning only the M1911". I understand as a mod at DITL you have to be dense... I get that really. But really just pick something meaningful to fail at.

Colt is a popular firearm, the M1911 is one of them more popular models. SO the people who picked the firearm were most likely Colt fans who enjoy that specific model. Very likely ex military as the removal of the Colt M1911 caused a big fuss when replaced with the B-9mmSF.

A western state, picking a brand of firearm that was well known and then taking one of that brands more popular models. Why that is a shock to you is just a bad sign.

Deep, you ignorant slut. Yeah, I get it - you were talking about Colts in general, not just the M1911. The fact remains, however, that the conversation was about the M1911 in particular, no matter what you decided to talk about.

More to the point, the M1911 doesn't really bear a relationship to Utah. It would make more sense (and even then, precious little) for New Jersey to adopt the light bulb as the state electrical device because it was invented by Thomas Edison. I understand that a lot of people like the M1911 - it doesn't follow, however, that it has any special relationship with the state of Utah. By the logic Utah is claiming to use, the 9mm Browning Hi-Power or the BAR would be a better fit.

Is this conversation going to remain somewhat civil, or shall we just call this one and move on?
