1) I have no idea what you Colonials (of varying descriptions) do in criminals terms...

However, A lot of parents react that way. I can't comment why, it's unlikely I will ever be one but they seem to act in that manner.

I don't know about you in the Ol' Island, but I have yet to see that kind of silly overreaction here in Quebec. Although it wouldn't surprise me if it happened in Alberta...

I'm sure the reaction of a bread-basket, English-descent Canadian would be much closer to a heartland American one than would the reaction of a Quebecois parent.

As a parent, my guess as to the rationale behind that sort of over-reaction is this: when a parent feels that they are inadequate to the task of speaking frankly and intelligently to their child about the facts of life, they instead scream and rant to try and keep the facts of life away from their child.

Like I said, just a cynical and pessimistic guess.

That cynical, and pessimistic guess sounds dreadfully accurate.

I think you're spot on with your guess.

That would be cured very simply by the police insisting that both parties be prosecuted equally.

From what I understand, that would require a law change as its currently written that the male offender always takes full blame over the female. If it's same sex, it's the age that determines. As I understand it that is.

So if two boys get curious about their sexuality, the older one, by 4 months, should be tried? :bangwall:

Let's completely screw up this situation by adding a few extra defendants:

1) Band Director, for allowing 2 unsupervised kids into their area of responsibility.

2) School, for allowing 2 kids to go off unsupervised. Shouldn't they have cameras in every nook and cranny, or at least subcutaneous skin tracers and GPS to keep track of these villains?

3) School District, for failing to properly install a curriculum that educates emerging pubescent kids on the legal ramifications of these type of actions.

... I'm sure the city, county, state governments could be brought into this as well. Then we can do a reality show around the entire process, and sell advertising space and do public service announcements about the dangers of exploring sexual curiosity...

How about Spongebob, which shows children the bad example by touching each others?

Good point, Foxbat. I can't believe that both the school and the parents aren't being held responsible for failing to install RFID tags under the skin of their kids' necks.

This whole thing is utterly ridiculous. What they're basically saying is that nobody can engage in any social activity that might go beyond "being friends" until they're both of the age of consent (what is that over there anyway? 16? 18?). Yeah, because that's going to lead to a healthy social life and confidence around the opposite (or same, in some cases) sex, right?

What's next? Are they going to start arresting any teenagers that have boyfriends or girlfriends? Because that's the exact same logic that they're using for this case.
