Bad examples. All of those are racist and bigoted; there were Native American "mascots" for fighter groups and squads, but none of those teams used those mascots. Thus, they have no inherent patriotic value.Mikey wrote:Or, to play devil's advocate (pun completely intended) - protesting the mascot of the Washington Redskins, or the Cleveland Indians, or Atlanta Braves...
Starting to get my point, now that it's a bit closer to home? He's protesting the use of demonic imagery. The precursors that have used that same epithet are irrelevant. I have read nothing that says that the high school used that nickname because of the fighter group, or in homage to it. While I think the guy is N-V-T-S for his carrying-on, I also think it has absolutely zero to do with the fighter group.
Actually, no.Deepcrush wrote:Tsu, hate to tell you this but what you did is both an abuse of you Mod tools and just a dickhead move.
Fixed.Tsukiyumi wrote:Actually, yes.
I'm in the discussion, one to which you've openly ignored because it hasn't swung your way.Tsukiyumi wrote:If you'd like to get back to the discussion, feel free.
Really? I think we got sidetracked for a moment, but I haven't ignored anyone.Deepcrush wrote:I'm in the discussion, one to which you've openly ignored because it hasn't swung your way.Tsukiyumi wrote:If you'd like to get back to the discussion, feel free.
I didn't say I opposed his right to protest. I'm protesting his protest, by saying I believe it's unpatriotic to protest a symbol of American heroes.Deepcrush wrote:The problem continues that you are applying your own opinion of faith to another and then damning him for not agreeing with you. Since the United States of America is supposed to have a freedom of Religion, you are yourself acting unpatriotic by opposing his right to protest.
No, because you're not protesting the unit or the country to which it serves.Tsukiyumi wrote:So, it's not unpatriotic to criticize a unit's mascot, as long as that's not the reason you're protesting it?
If they believe that it is wrong to represent blood and war through the flag then it is their duty as patriotic citizens to protest as such so long as they do not cause harm to others.Tsukiyumi wrote:So, if someone's religion found the color red offensive, it wouldn't be unpatriotic for them to protest the flag?
Yes, and it was meaningless for this thread.Tsukiyumi wrote:I already gave the Apollo Program example;
And what if they aren't from this country? What if they have had the eagle as a sacred symbol for longer then the United States has used the Great Seal? How is it that you talk of someone being patriotic while at the same time you ignore the Bill of Rights?Tsukiyumi wrote:what about people who consider the eagle sacred to their religion? I think it would be unpatriotic for them to protest the Great Seal.
Which is good and fine though not something that should be used in a thread title or when you attempt to defend you opinion by stepping on a a Citizen's Rights.Tsukiyumi wrote:Again, it's my opinion.
