That was one thing that film had in spades. Atmosphere.

Both the speech, the sunlight advancing with the Rohirrim, the pure drama of the charge.

Its not just the charge of mass horse that brings the drama IMO, but the emotions behind the men (and woman) committing the charge. They'd just saved their own kingdom after suffering horrid losses. Remember that Rohan had a rather small population next to Gondor so those losses were even more hurtful. But now they gathered who they could quickly and rode to another battle to which they were pretty sure they were going to lose and none would return from.

That makes the charge even more impressive to me. Knowing and later seeing what they did... they ran but instead of away from the enemy, they ran right into the middle of the enemy.
