I use windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop. And Honestly, I dont have any problems. I just managed to update to service pack 2 and it was fine. Now that I have stopped gaming on PC's, I dont really have any need for major processing power which vista eats and I find it to be pretty smooth.

None of the windows systems have "problems" in the sense that they have giant holes in them. They're all usable.

But XP has an issue with security, even after the patches, it is also out dated even if it was fine back in the day.

Vista after the patches was pretty good, but it was still a massive resource whore. You needed a damn good machine to run it and do other stuff as well, and frankly, most people didnt have good computers, especially when Vista came out.

yeah, the worst one we have no is my laptop and even thats a 1.9 Dual Core.

I've never had a sec issue with XP (at least not since SP 2, getting which was no problem for me) although Vista would have been a problem - my PC is technically designated a "POS."

OTOH, I hated using my wife's Macbook (when she had one from school.) That may have been more to it being an outdated machine trying to stuff all the apps it could to keep up, though.

Well we have 30 or so machines running XP in work and even with us looking after them we have problems from time to time. Things like the entire machine / user account suddenly becoming useless and having to be re-installed from scratch. That said we have a quick blat mechanism to stamp a clean install of Windows onto a machine.

Somehow my dad got 7 to work on this Machine, and I love it, it is so great, and it looks good too... It runs well, and looks good... so I think this could be Microsoft's best OS yet, but I will leave judgment for that until I have used it for a while.

I have recently discovered that my Laptop is also tied into Vista so it wont run XP either if i wanted it to. Stuck with vista. Looks like i'm saving for a laptop guys

Anything that runs Vista should run Windows 7. If it doesn't the Windows 7 is another M$ epic failure.

But Mac OS9 couldn't be ported to OSX IIRC, so I wouldn't say that. It says that you have to have SP1 or higher to upgrade, and HP's boot was tied down to Vista OOB, so it is actually HP's fault for being moronic in setting things up.

That makes no sense. You don't port an operating system to another operating system. When OSX came out any machine that could run OS9 could then be upgraded to run OSX. Now the latest version of OSX only runs on Intel Macs.

However, the big issue is that Windows 7 is supposed to be M$s big new thing that there to solve all the problems that Vista caused. If Windows 7 cannot run on a Machine capable of running Vista then it will be a disaster for Microsoft. They are claiming that 7 requires less resources to run than Vista, if that's not the case they're going to be in trouble with their customers.

So are you saying that you cannot simply wipe the disk and install from scratch. I find that difficult to believe.

Its not so much that, HP aren't producing the Windows 7 drivers for my laptop.

That wasn't the problem, IDK what the problem was actually, my dad took about 30 mins and made it work, after 6 days of me trying...

But yeah, what I was saying was I thought that the ability to transfer everything from OS9 to OSX did not exist... but yes, Windows 7 can run on any Vista machine as long as the dumbass company that manufactured the computer makes the drivers for 7, HP hates people...

The issue there was that Apple made a big architectural change in its OS between versions 9 and 10 (X): OS9 ended the line of "classic" Mac OS as OSX moved to a UNIX-based kernel in OSX (that's the core part of the OS). The Windows kernel is proprietary and largely secret, but hasn't gone through such a critical change since the adoption of the NT-based system.

Though they're distinct OSes in many ways, Mac OSX and Linux have certain similarities, such as the use of the CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) for... well, printing, and SAMBA (besides being both UNIX-based ). The Mac OSX kernel is still a distinct entity, and is a proprietary and closed fork of UNIX, to say nothing of the rest of the outer "onion" layers of the OS around the kernel, of course.

Then it's MSs fault they should have made 7s drivers compatible with Visita or XP drivers.
