Well apparently that area is extremely insular and xenophobic so I wouldn't doubt that he could have been killed for just being in the wrong area but it could also just be a ruse.

Hence why I'm waiting.

My guess? This guy ran into some Freeman-type secessionist who equated "census worker" with "ATF, FBI, or some other damned gub'mint agency."

But, as you say, more details need to be forthcoming.
