Nope, you've gotta rack the slide to get out the one in the chamber. This wasn't a freak accident, it was natural selection in action.

So, #1 - I know more about guns than the law enforcement officer Mark described, and #2 - he knowingly discharged a firearm with a round in the chamber at his own foot. Too bad he didn't shoot himself in the nards so he couldn't reproduce.

He didn't intentionally shoot himself in the foot, I'm pretty sure he didn't know the thing was loaded. It's an accident, but an incredibly stupid one. I won't point a gun at me or anyone else even if I know for a fact it's unloaded.

Hell, I live in a country where guns are completely illegal and even I know that you have to pull the slide back to make sure it's totaly unloaded. What a moron.

Though it still doesn't beat the police officer who was teaching a school class how to safely handel a gun....and promptly shot himself in the leg.

I know he didn't think it was loaded. If you bother to drop the mag out, wouldn't you take a moment to check that the chamber is clear, instead of just assuming before you take off the safety and discharge it at a part of your own body?

Isn't that how Brandon Lee was killed while filming The Crow? They were behind schedule in filming, so they didn't bother calling in the gun safety expert. During a scene in which Lee's character was to be shot, a blank round killed him.

Yep. I'm not sure if it was the packing that killed him, or the powder burn.

Actually, IIRC the weapon was shooting live ammo earlier and a round with not enough powder went off, but the bullet itself wedged into the barrel. When the fired the blank, the burst of powder blew the unseen projectile into Brandon's body.

A freak accident, but still one they taught us to be aware of in Basic Training (in the Army), mostly because if you fire another round out of a weapon that has something jammed in the barrel, bad things happen.

I wish to have sympathy for this blithering idiot... but I don't. Does that make me a bad person?
