I like the idea of taxing the incredibly rich incredible amounts... Take 90% of their income, and they still have millions of dollars left as pocket change... Greedy bastards

To give youu an idea, Seafort, of how ridiculously low US taxes are compared to the rest of the world - capital gains are only taxed at 18% over here.

And when you're comparing tax rates, bear in mind that we have no national sales tax or VAT - here, for example, there's just a 5% state sales tax.

I support public health care because I'm tired of seeing criminals get treated to the best money can buy. While a hard working parent, carrying their child in their arms, can be turned away at the door.

As to taxes. IMO, taxes should be even. One tax rate for everyone. If its 50%, then so be it but make it for everyone. Rich or poor. Doesn't matter. If you make it 25% then the same still applies.

Personally I like the idea of taxing everyone the same percentage.

Flat tax? No thanks. There is a level, in addition to the poverty line, below which the percentage needs to be less in order to allow for a true middle class. The wealthy can bear a larger tax percentage and remain wealthy.

Exactly. Taking 50% from someone who makes $10,000 a year would put them on the street. Take 50% from someone who makes $10 million a year, and they'd have to wait a little while before they buy a new island.

That whole concept is idiotic in the extreme.

I have two kids and a third on the way, my wife is a stay at home mom, yeah I'm just rolling in cash when my last major entertainment purchase was a $13 book a month ago and 2/3 of my kids wardrobes are hand me downs. Not really a thought on your part so much as an asinine roundabout ad hominem attack. "You guys are rolling in it so you're just looking for a tax break right?"

That's not what I was getting at, it was a wrong assumption, I believed that based on the fact that both of you said that you thought that a single tax rate rather than graduated. In my very small knowledge and in my opinion it seems most who are better off, in the high middle class, don't mind a single tax rate, whereas people in the lower middle class to low class usually want a graduated tax rate.

I'm middle class and I support flat tax as well. It has nothing to do with wanting more money for myself but wanting a fairer tax system.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

What is fair though?

Fair in my opinion is the rich paying for most things as they can afford it a lot more than the middle class... Which would include my family...
