I don't buy the camera bit and I won't until we actually get some confirmation on it, nor do I buy that Canada will adopt it either. For one we don't have the Chav problem and the folks we have similar to Chavs are mostly located on First Nations Reserves and IIRC they are largely exempt from these sorts of things by treaty.

I find it very difficult to believe that something like this could have begun without widespread interntional outcry, if not outright violence.

Indeed. Until I see this on a source I know I can trust, I'm calling BS.

Well, I don't think it gets more official than a UK government site.

I don't see anything in there about putting cams in the homes though.

Okay, well Wired (who I trust) says
Further research shows that the Express didn't quite have all its facts straight. This scheme is active, and the numbers are fairly accurate (if estimated), but the mentions of actual cameras in people's homes are exaggerated. The truth is that the scheme can take the most troublesome families out of their homes and move them, temporarily, to a neutral, government-run compound. Here they will be under 24-hour supervision. CCTV cameras are not specifically mentioned, not are they denied, but 24-hour "supervision" certainly doesn't rule this out from the camera-loving Brits.

Most of that article was sensationalist tripe but I must say that if the compound thing is true, it's not quite as bad. Presumably you can opt out of it.
Personally I'm betting on random spot checks.

Okay so instead of installing cameras in their home they are pulling them away from their homes, put into government run boxes with cameras there. Far superior.
Its strange no major media outlet has covered this so far. I guess we'll know for sure in a few weeks if its on a major news site.

Give me a fucking break, the government doesn't have the power to do that sort of thing without invoking some rather nasty emergency powers. Children's Aid is mistrusted, yes and rightly so but I'll bet what we're not hearing is that folks can opt out. IE: they've been given an option to do this or lose the kids. Frankly that's no bad thing, at least their being given an option to
learn and
improve rather then some of the out and out BS that happens round here.

Indeed.

In fact, I think there was some sort of little skirmish in the middle of the century that might have put England off of forcibly removing unwilling people to compounds like that. Can't remember what it was all about, though.

Indeed. Again, I'm continuing to call bullshit on it until a news source I can trust mentions it.

What do you think happens when social services lift kids from abusive parents?

I only know cause dad does it for a living. And it's slowly but surely driving him into ill mental health. In fact, they only lift kids when its absolutely last option. the last time he had to lift 3 girls from a family of an estate, because the entire family were engaging in incestious relationships. it was from all ages, 70 down to 5. the youngest girl 7, had already started, engaging in relations with her grandfather, mother in law and uncle. They only do these things when it is absolutely necessary.
