it was a joke, just listening to the joke, one can pretty easily realize he was referring to the 18 year old, even if it was the 14 year old who was in NYC. In poor tast, probably, but then again, this is a talk show host, all of their jokes are ususally in bad taste. I personally don't see what he did as overly inappropriate, especially given his "appology".

The Palin camp should grow up and realize, hay, we were under the national microscope, their going to be making fun of all the little (or not so little) defects we have, maybe we should ignore it, like we were taught in f'n elemtry school.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

 , different problem though....Letterman doesn't have an army at his command, and no one really takes him serious anyway.

Asshole or not, wrong or right, funny or stupid, what's it matter? Proffessional comedians are like forum trolls, the more you engage them, the more they win.

But I want more jokes like this :P

I thought they were both pretty funny (providing it was Bristol not whatever-the-other-crazy-tongue-speaking-nut-job-of-a-daughter's-name)
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

I don't really care for Letterman, but I don't see what the problem is either. The man told some jokes, there was a slight slip up on the targeting of the jokes, Palin over-reacts. Frankly I don't see anything newsworthy about any of it.

But if it gets a laugh for you, bravo. The world needs more funny.

If there wasn't such a double standard I would agree that the Palin's should take it as a tacky joke. But since there is a double standard then I can understand their frustration.

Hey, all of you old farts out there here is a question for ya. Do you think someone like Don Rickles would be accepted today?

Yes. No doubt. There is a backlash against the current PC overload. Lisa Lampanelli is every bit as abrasive and offensive as Rickles or Hackett ever were, and she's not nearly as funny - yet, she's got shows out the ass, plus TV spots, etc.
