I was just wondering that myself.

It wasn't an insult. I'm just saying that the USMC is now a vanguard or high-level insertion force, not actually "marines" in the sense of soldiers stationed aboard a ship. I'd love to see how a rowboat full of Somalis fares against a fully-kitted platoon of devil dogs.Deepcrush wrote:And what is that supposed to mean!!!!Mikey wrote:Either that, or let's make turn the Marines back into marines. Let's see how a tub full of half-trained buccaneers do against an onboard platoon of the USMC.
Nice. "Let me show you a magic trick... Surprise! It's a Harpoon!"Rochey wrote:I wonder could we bring back the concept of Q-ships?
I've been thinking that since Sunday. Maybe it's time I try for an editorial in the paper...Rochey wrote:I wonder could we bring back the concept of Q-ships?
I think I already posted something to the effect.me,myself and I wrote:I've been thinking that since Sunday. Maybe it's time I try for an editorial in the paper...Rochey wrote:I wonder could we bring back the concept of Q-ships?
That would imply that we care about saving the boat those rags are on. Let it sink and let them (the ones not filled with bullet holes) drown. It wasn't an insult. Way way to expensive. MGs are the best way to go. Maybe even a Vulcan or 3in cannon from a Coast Guard Destroyer.Nice. "Let me show you a magic trick... Surprise! It's a Harpoon!"
Yeah, you're probably right. I guess I just got excited about the big boom.Deepcrush wrote:Way way to expensive. MGs are the best way to go. Maybe even a Vulcan or 3in cannon from a Coast Guard Destroyer.
This makes me want to kick you.Mikey wrote:THAT'S what we need as a maritime weapon - some friggin' sharks with some friggin' laser beams attached to their friggin' foreheads.
What, you've never seen Austin Powers?Deepcrush wrote:This makes me want to kick you.Mikey wrote:THAT'S what we need as a maritime weapon - some friggin' sharks with some friggin' laser beams attached to their friggin' foreheads.
MGs are too light to be certain of sinking one of the bigger ships, 3 in I think would be too heavy and complicated for a Q-ship. A Vulcan would do well, but its rate of fire might be a problem - you'd have to carry a huge amount of ammo. Best bet, I think, would be a few 40mm Bofors.Deepcrush wrote:Way way to expensive.
