Seen Idiocracy, have you? I've certainly heard it said more than once that we are dumbing down the species thanks to advances that allow us to save folks that would have died before breeding. 200 years ago that lower mower guy would have bleed to death. It's interesting to think about your 7-8 children comment and realise just how many people I know like are like that turn out to be rather stupid.

Interestingly enough, the ability that we now have to keep those idiots in the gene pool can be regarded as the height of our evolution. The technology and knowledge required to, for example, re-attach that hand or at least staunch the bleeding - and allow that dumbass to breed - is a result of our evolution.
