Not a good swimmer... and not the world's best blogger. *Sigh* Ah, well.

Meh. Not a job I would want at all. I don't like beaches.

Not a big fan of beaches either, but I do love the ocean. Prefer it on a rainy day though.

I dont mind beaches during sunset or dawn when its summer cause then its a nice temperature and its loverly and beautiful. Day time at any season, you can eff off.
I have some form of pathological fear of swimming in the sea, someone pushed me in a while back, and i literally came out petrified with fear. But I just don't know why. Maybe because I can't see whats below me? No idea.
And I hate sand. it just gets everywhere and is really messy. horrible in your finger or toe nails too.

I would be there in a heartbeat. Even though it's on the other side of the world I'd grow dreadlocks dust off my bass and start a reggae band, fly tours in a Cessna Caravan in the amphibian configuration, and just wear cut off jeans and flip flops all day. Your stereotypical caucasian beach bum. 8) Kinda like Robin Williams in the movie 'Club Paradise.' Hey it's my dream so what the heck!
Oh yeah and there will always be time to fish and scuba dive.
Of course cabanas, or whatever is there, will always be available for the DITL crowd!

Unfortunatly those two go together quite a lot.Not a big fan of beaches either, but I do love the ocean. Prefer it on a rainy day though.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Re: Best Job in the World
I was last on a beach nine years ago, when I last went on a holiday. And I only briefly walked along the sand, maybe five minutes. Before that, it was long enough that I don't remember clearly - perhaps 25 years or so.Mikey wrote:Really? To me, that's like someone saying, "I don't care much for breathing."
Beaches have very little that I enjoy.

I could probably send you links to a few pics that would change your mind on that.GrahamKennedy wrote:...Beaches have very little that I enjoy.

I have enjoyed the beach myself, though it's been a couple of years since I've seen one. (the beaches of Staten Island aren't worth a visit, aside from some nice views across the bay from the northern shore near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Apparently, we do have one of the longest boardwalks in the world here too - though I don't know why, since nobody uses it)

Even in winter (if it's mild enough) the family enjoys walks along the boardwalk. Watching and listening to the ocean is like our poor-man's therapy.

Re: Best Job in the World
The last vacation I had (1999), I went back to my home turf, and after a disappointing session at A Street in Newport Beach, I asked my buddy if we could go somewhere with less people in the water. He said, "Well, there's one place..."Mikey wrote:...bodysurfing...
So, we went. I didn't find out until later what it was. The Wedge.
I thought, "No wonder I actually wiped out."
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
I gave up after the second wipeout (only 30 minutes out there), and sat on the beach smoking. I'm totally going again the next time I'm out there.

Wow. I'm not nearly good enough to hit that. Any break that had a song written about it must be hella good (as they say out on the left coast.)
I did once in my life get a chance to witness (not surf!) the Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu... but I'm sure Mark could tell you more about that.
