This is really no worse than Gwyneth Paltrow naming her daughter Apple. I mean comon, naming your daughter after a fruit is probably not the best exercise in judgment.

The Holland parents are just exercising their rights and beliefs by naming their child after someone they hold in high regard. It's irrelevant to them that for the most of us we know that Adolf Hitler was a complete psychotic sociopath who led a proud country to its ruin and cause the German State to be split for almost 60 years.

For us a name is how we identify with other people who we are. That is a fundamental importance of the human condition, the ability for us to label things in order for us to understand and comprehend our own world.

Sometimes how we label things, or name our own children in this case, we may not use the best exercise in judgment or run contrary to the values of our society, whether that society exists now or later. If naming their kid as they did is not against the law, then by all means they should be able to. However they shouldn't expect society to be well...tolerant of their poor judgment. In fact, society can be rather cruel on something like this, especially the young kids who really don't know any better.

Nobody wass saying that naming their child the way they did was illegal - just that it condemned the poor kid to a miserable life of abuse. That's not something that I would want to do to my child.

Hell, my mom wanted to name me after my dad, but my father didn't want me to catch hell for having his name (it was unusual), so they came up with Mark. Poor Adolf is going to get his a$$ kicked every day six ways from sunday

Is your Mom Jewish? We of Askenazic descent have a tradition of it being bad luck to name a child after a living relative.

She is, but she's not exactly conventional. She named my sister after her father and THAT pi$$ed off my uncles to no end. Not to mention the fact she married a gentile.

And as for being bad luck, after she decided on naming my sister Julius after my grandfather, (while she was still pregnant) he died from a heartattack. Then HER water broke at the funural and thus my older sister popped out.
