If they let Nuns and Priests get it off I'd be worried about the mental health of a child raised by them, or about the church breeding an army.

Personaly I never understood the whole Catholic "thou shalt not screw!" thing they have going. If we weren't supposed to be f*cking, then why is it pleasurable?

No, they want you to "be fruitful, and multiply", they just don't want you to enjoy it.

Which, of course, is the exact opposite of what I believe. We're overpopulated enough as is.

Better to spend an hour a week in sex, and devoting the rest of the time to God, than spending every waking moment resisting getting laid (or plotting against the closest choir boy), so your focus is only half on Him.

The idea stems from ancient monasticism, in which celibacy was only one of a number of options for self-affliction which were supposed to help one focus on repentance and spirituality.

in my wife's branch of the Catholic Church - Byzantine Catholicism - priests were allowed and encouraged to marry for quite a long time in the Old World. Rumor has it that they are going back to that practice. It was funny at first to hear that her parish priest's father was a priest, and his father was a priest - but it makes sense. There is a difference between a vocational calling and a monastic order; and these guys are supposed to advise engaged and married couples, as well as parents.

I think that makes alot of sense, really.

I'm sure everyone has noticed, it's been A LONG, LONG, LONG time since you've had a Rabbi in the news for any of that kind of sillyness. (At least none we've gotten wind of out here)

By me, we had one in the news a couple of years ago for conspiring with his mistress to have his wife put down, but nothing involving little boys.
