Thanks Rochey you're suppose to say a ceasefire was put in place before it could esculate.

Not really I was just hoping. I wonder if I need to start buying canned foods.

Why would you need to? The war is between Russia and Georgia. The US isn't going to get into a war with Russia over South Ossetia, all they'll do is sit back and protest.

And if they do that then they get labelled as massive hypocrites thanks to the adventures in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Well, I don't think that in particular would stop them.

Neither do I, I'll just add it to the "things to laugh at them for" list.

In Soviet Russia, Ukraine absorbs Russia.
There is not a problem in this world that can't be solved without the proper application of a sufficient number of thermonuclear ordnance.

I didn't read this particular article but from what I understand of the situation Osettia was lost by Georgia to the Russians in a 90s war... Georgia sent troops in a few days ago and is now upset Russia sent in troops...

Apperantly Russia has been "Peacekeeping" in the region as part of a deal with Georgia as the region wants to seperate. But tthe Russians have been suppyling aid and weapons to the seperatists (cause they want to join Russia) and gave them all Russian citizenship, which IMO was the perfect setup to allow them to come to their aid if Georgia finally got fed up with their crap.

Okay, so most of the population holds Russian Citizenship, they are ethnically linked to other citizens of Russia and right after Georgia broke away from the USSR South Osettia breaks away from them to try and go back to Russia. Fast forward to 2008, Georgia sends in Troops, Russia opens its borders to refugees who come fleeing in droves to get away from the Georgians, Russia sends in troops to protect its other citizens, Georgia realizes they screwed the pouch on this one and request a cease fire... And we call the Russians the bad guys, the same thing happens in Quebec every 20-30 years and yet we label them the bad guys...

You've lost me, what does this have to do with Quebec?

I'm saying that the whole issue over where they belong, terrorist uprising, military intervention, ceasefire happens here and most of the country believes Quebec to be in the wrong yet when a breakaway state wants to rejoin Russia the world lines up to denounce their choice and wants to see them forced back to a Country they never wanted to be a part of...

Personally my GAF factor over Russia/Georgia is very low as is my support for Quebec seperation. They voted and lost and even the sepertists have largely given up on it. Probably because they realised that unlike Georgia, Quebec has no where to go, no country to join. And the Natives that own the land that the hydro projects are on will stay with Canada, so yeah poocehed beyond belief.

Russia is now accusing Ukraine of helping Georgia, they're providing arms for them but russia says they're doing more it seems. This could turn out interesting. :takecover:
