But Teaos, that doesn't make any sense. If these near-christian religions were already around, that'd make people even more likely to go for christianity.

They weren't near-Christian religions. They were religions that had gained popularity in Roman areas - especially ports, etc. - from which Christianity adopted certain ideas in order to capitalize on their popular appeal. The trinity, for example, coming from the Osiris-Isis-Horus dynamic of the Egyptian Osiris cult (which also conveniently had the Satan-Seth parallel) or the veneration of December 25th, which was a holy day in Mithraism (which was a popular offshoot of Zoroastrianism) even though the best evidence puts the appearance of the "Star of Bethlehem" in mid-April.

As for his claims... well anybody can make claims. He hasn't produced any actual evidence, that I know of.
