Well, maybe we can just take their word that there was a great speech?

Being the Captain on the best Trek show? >.>
Yes, I think he was only the captain on ENT.
Corrected that for you

But we're not discussing TOS.

Good cause otherwise we'd have a bad captain.

Now we're talking about VOY? Will you guys please quit changing the topic?
Honestly, I don't really have a problem with Archer. My issue is with the show itself.

I have issues with the guy. He was a piss poor captain.

I think that in a rare instance of considerate writing, some of his questionable decisions showed the lack of precedent or "common knowledge" for the situations he was in.

The problem was that he was so freaking inconsistant in his decisions.
For example, in Fortunate Son Archer goes all-out to stop a freighter captain from getting revenge on a band of pirates who had attacked him on numerous occasions and killed his son.
Yet in a later episode, Archer does the very same thing himself and goes after a group to get revenge on them for something or other.

That's what I like, he's not perfect. Picard was all high and might and knew everything and whatnot. Archer show that he's just as human as we are.

No, Archer shows that he's freaking inconsistant. Someone who was "just as human as we are" wouldn't stand by and let billions die when he had the cure in his hand due to some seriously fucked-up "logic".

I guess I missed that episode. Was it from season 2? 'Cause I only caught the tail-end of season 2.

I don't remember that episode. And didn't Picard do something like that with the Prime Directive until other members of his crew convinced him to do otherwise?

I don't remember specific eps of ENT well enough to comment on Archer's inconsistencies, but the idea that he should make a number of mistakes as a trail-blazer is a valid one. In general, his increasing willingness to do anything it takes to save earth was interesting to watch. Perhaps we might come up with some moments from this time?
