My guess is that you'll want the things when they really start making Hi Def movies for ridiculously large plasma screen TVs (and said TVs get cheap enough a lot of people have them).

Otherwise I don't now that I'm feeling the advantage. Sure they could put all those episodes on a disk. But unless they actually charge significantly less I don't care. And since I think most costs go to royalties I don't have high hopes.

No. They've lost the format war. Once word gets around they'll be this generation's Beta-max tapes, if they're lucky. They only have 30 gigabytes of storage on a duel-layer disk. Blu-ray has 25 gigabytes on single layer and 50 on duel layer. Do you really want to use a smaller format?

Basically, besides Blackstar's lingo, and points about incomprehensibly excessive capacity, rather than simply ridiculously excessive, the short version is that HD-DVDs simply won't be available. It'd be like having a car that requires high-lead fuel - there simply isn't (or won't be) the infrastructure to support it.

MP3s are more portable.
Mobile phones can be carried in a pocket.
DVDs allowed a massive range of features that VHS couldn't have.

Um...ya. Why not? There are CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, why not Blu-Ray ROMs? It is logical. Why do you think PS3s are the cheapest Blu-Ray players on the market? There's a reason they were built in with that technology.

Why is it? It's going to be very expensive to get a Blue Ray player and films for it when it comes out. Meanwhile, I can continue to buy films for far cheaper for my DVD player. When I can't get the DVDs I want anymore, then I'll buy a Blue Ray thingy. For far cheaper, too. Untill then, it's just a waste of money. I'd just be buying something I arleady have and don't need.

What? It's about $500 for a PS3 which is both a gaming console and a Blu-ray player. Seems like a good deal to me.

Why not dump the soon to be out of date technology and get the stuff that'll be useful to you in the future? Does it make sense to buy DVD's when you'll just have to get them on Blu-ray again?

Not exactly. I'm talking interactive real-time menus while the movie is still playing.

And what would I use that for? The only thing I can think of is turning on the commentaries, or the subtitles. Both of which I can do with my DVD remote.

Because, as I've already said, there's no point. Untill they stop making any DVDs at all, I'm happy and I'm, saving loads of money.

Yes. Why? Because by the time I finaly get around to buying a Blu-ray, I can find the films I want in the bargains section of my local shop, and pick up three films for a fiver.

Speaking for myself, having to pull out DVDs from a pack of seven discs to do screencaps gets real irritating real quick. The idea of having a whole season of Trek on one disc is appealing!

I already have half a dozen movies that won't fit on a single disc. I watched my King Kong special edition the other day, had to change the disc halfway through. Same with my Lord of the Rings extended editions, every one of them.

And I probably have FIFTY movies that have a "bonus disc" on them. Just being able to combine those onto a single disc will be a huge plus for me.

The only possible advantage to this is that they can throw more 'the making of' documentaries on the disc. Not a great reason to go out and buy a completely new system, in my opinion, when the one I have fits my needs perfectly.

Here's a bet for you. Within two years, the entire DVD section of any given shop will occupy as much shelf space as the VHS tapes do now (ie precious little). Within five, it will be hard to buy a movie on DVD at all. It'll be hard to buy a player for them too.
