Great: The War with unholy alliances
Good: The Defiant and the runabouts. No runabout from the beginning exists at the end of the series. but they are faster than every shuttle - and this don't protect them from destruction. In the future someone should invent the instant runabout - instant shuttles we have seen on voyager
Average: The Haircut of Sisko at the beginning
Bad: The influence of the prophets
Terrible: Gul Dukat at the end of the series.

Great: The Dominion War. Awesome space battles. The Defiant. Nana Visitor's butt (did I just say that out loud?
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
)
Good: Worf coming over from TNG. Alright, now the party can start! Odo's character fleshed out really well.
Average: Avery Brooks from Spencer for Hire as the emissary?
Poor: The whole Bajoran/prophets/pah wraith religious rigamarole.
Terrible: That it couldn't have lasted longer, truely one of my favorite series.
And welcome to the forum, Chadic!

Great. Siskos bald head and beard. The Runabouts. GARAK!
Good. The refitted station. Nog and Jake (annoying at first, they developed quite nicely). Quark and Rom too come to think of it.
Average. Ezri Dax - cuter then Jadzia, but not quite as interesting, and no match for Worf.
Bad. The Changelings - I always thought Odo looked like that cause he was a bad shapeshifter, not because of his race.
Terrible. Dukats later plotlines.

It was that reason to begin with but then he kept it because it was his "look".
The other changlings adopted it so they could be told apart.

Most definite. It would only be logical for the station to have had decent armament to begin with.

Yeah never understood that. Even before the wormhole was discovered it needed an upgrade.
Probably less of an issue during the war, but what are the ramifacations of installing Federation technology on what was still a Bajoran spacestation. Presumably Starfleet doesn't go round upgrading their allies ships like that.

Who would upgrade it? The Bajorans owned it and didnt have the money to upgrade. Starfleet only sent a second rate commander to over see it. They didnt really give a shit about it.

Teaos is right. An upgrade would mean spending Fed resources on a station that wasn't theirs, and had a fair chance of never being theirs. Only when militarily necessary did the FEds spend those resources, and this is one of the rare UFP decisions about resource management that I agree with.

Though wasn't DS9 a Federation station in all but name? Think about it.
Who commanded the station? A starfleet officer.
Who occupied the station? Starfleet personel.
Who defended the station? Starfleet ships.
Who maintained and upgraded the station? Starfleet engineers.
Who used the station? Starfleet personel and ships.

DS9's status was very similar to the current status of Ascension Island, or Diego Garcia. They've got US bases on them, are largely populated by US military personnel, and are mostly used by the US military. That doesn't change the fact that they're British sovereign territory, hence the recent sink over redition flights refuelling at DG.

I agree it was a Federation station in all but name, but the Bajornas could have asked them to leave at anytime. I don't imagine they had any issue with the Federation upgrading their station for them though.
And there was a heavy presence of Bajoran enigneers and Deputies on board.

Even if they could have upgraded it the point still stands that there was no need to do it before the wormhole opened.

Did they not discover the wormhole right at the start of the Series? So basically as soon as Sisko takes over they realise it needs upgrading and get to work.
I understand your point that without the wormhole it would've prob fallen apart by now and Bajor would've been put on the "We'll let you join in another couple of centuries" list instead of given preferential treatment.
What Sisko should've said - "Scr*w the Bajorans its ours now and WE control the wormhole. What are they going to do, send your dozen sublight ships against the starships we station there - oh I know they chased the Cardies out but they're just rubbish"

There was no need for a massive weapons upgrade untill a contact with a hostile power was made. They explored the gama quadrent for 2 years before the Dominion made contact.
