It requires a few streches but compared to a lot of the stuff in trek it would hardly be unique or so obvious as to ruin the enjoyment of the show like ENT did.

Actually, I'd put it right up there with some of the weirder bits in ENT in the category of "so illogical that it actually detracts from entertainment value."

I found some more information about this theory about Tholians.

As refugees, the Tholians of this galaxy lack much of the scientific and technical expertise they once possessed. They have some automated equipment that they can operate, but no specialists who could explain how and why it works or teach others about it. They have machines that make copies of devices (like their web generators) that they don't understand and could never redesign, electronic systems they can build but can't repair, and weapons they can understand and repair, but don't have the ability to build.

The Tholians' only concern is survival; they have little or no interest in galactic politics and would be quite happy if everyone else left them alone. Circumstances have not allowed them that luxury, however. The Klingons stubbornly maintain their claim on Tholian territory, and keep a strong squadron of ships at the Tholian border which they regularly use to provoke incidents (the Klingons see this as good combat training).

:? All that says is that they "can't" and "don't" because some guy says that they "can't" and "don't."

They said they lack the specialists to make it work.

But gives no reasons as to why. I have no problems with an alternate history for entertainment's sake - but it should be rational, IMO.

Maybe it was like the downfall of the Imperium of Man. The Imperium was at the level where they could move freaking stars around the galaxy and blast planets into rubble with orbiting fleets. Then there was a massive civil war, and the entire galaxy-spanning empire fell into a medieval-esque decline, to the point where hardly anyone knows how the technology they use really works, and they subsist by making increasingly innefecient copies of the tech they do have.

I have no problem with either explanation of itself; my issue is that somebody concocted this history, with no deduction as to why either of those things might have happened.

I feel really stupid but can someone fill me in somewhat? This always sounded like a videogame title to me.

Memory Alpha but thats not where I got it from originally. Think it was an editorial written by someone.

ENT has obviously screwed with the arrival time.
How is it ENT's fault that they 'screwed' with a non-canon source?

I think he meant that it screws up the theory, not that ENT purposely screwed it up.

Ah, aha. I see.
