Things have gone south for me at a rapid pace lately; I might not be around for a while. I've got real life business to attend to.

Whatever it is, I hope everything turns out OK... or at least, tolerable.

Well, I'm about to give up. My lawn is doing well this year but is inundated in parts by dandelions, ground ivy, and clover. If my latest attempt at an herbicidal application doesn't work, I'm just going to throw in the towel and open up a salad bar and an apiary.

BTW, even though mowing does nothing to the ground ivy, it smells absolutely phenomenal when I run over it. Before I identified it (the leaves lack the arrowhead shape of a deadnettle,) I was half-ready to believe I had athelas growing in my back yard.

I really don't miss the days we had a lawn.

   I read this immediately after watching Chuck Sonnenberg's latest DW review. Proof if any more were needed that the universe has a sense of humour.

Good luck, Tsuki.

Mike, don't worry too much about the lawn, Just stop and smell the ivy. ;)

It really is a pleasure to just scent the air after I've mowed that patch - the only problem is that where the mint grows, the grass doesn't, and ground ivy propagates by rhizomes. Killing what appears to be one plant is nothing more than the equivalent of taking one leaf from an oak.

Last autumn was better. I have five weeping willows on my property, and had just finished raking up 6,000 square feet worth of tiny willow leaves and who-knows how many willow twigs. I got everything bagged and put out by the curb and stopped before stowing my rake to have a smoke. I stood and looked up, and one lone willow leaf floated lazily out of the sky to land on my chest... I couldn't ascribe any feeling to that moment save for a sense of the universe gently whispering, "F*ck you, Mike."
