I think that Nog also brought in a feeling that a lot of lower class families have. That sometimes its better to let a child enlist for a better future then you can give them on your own.

When you look at him he perhaps changed the most out of anyone in DS9.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I think Bryan's and Teaos' point are exactly why the show had Nog enlist at all.

And that Starfleet would TRULY except and welcome all races. I mean that in a good way. I mean, until then who'd have ever pictured a Ferengi in Starfleet?

That and I thought Nog did a good job. He was loyal, skilled and lets face it... young. He went through what a lot of young soldiers go through. I liked how his character turned out.

It's really a counterpoint to S31 and the biological weapon. On the one hand, we get the pessimistic, utterly pragmatic but honorless dark side of the Federation. On the other, we get to see Starfleet truly being a paragon of acceptance and tolerance. It's a nice balance.

It brings out the true Starfleet and in turn the true UFP for me. Its not about always being the good guys. Its about being everyone. The melting pot of the galaxy.

I think its also important to see what Nog brought to the table. Even though he started as an outsider, he never stood alone. Thats a very important feeling.

Nog learned alot from Starfleet. Remember him in season one; your standard Ferengi.
By the end he made a decent officer.

Agreed. Sisko was lucky to have him. That there is something I never thought I would have said about him in season one.

But, let's take Nog a step further. Can anybody ever see him in the "center seat"?
