That's part of the problem, he's a fan. I'm interested in what the general public has to say, ask a dozen Trek fans what they think and you'll get a dozen answers.KuvahMagh wrote:I like his stuff and I'm pretty sure he is a Trek fan but I don't care, when it comes to ST 11 my mind is made up...

Re: Kevin Smith sort of reviews STXI
Trying to cater to the "general public" has been trying to kill off Trek since the begining of TOS when the Cage was considered too cerebral. There is a reason that people aren't Trek fans... they don't like it... why should we change everything we like about it just so someone else might like it... When we do that its just a cheap lie, barely a shadow of its former self...

Because you need money to make trek. If it doesn't appeal to none trekkies, then it wont get enough money.

Because there's no money in appealing to the remaining fans, there weren't enough to keep ENT on the air and the last two movies bombed horribly. Appealing to the everyday movie goer is the only way to make any money and possibly revive the franchise (if that's your thing). There's a bunch of fan made series out there if you want to see Trek by fans for fans.KuvahMagh wrote:Trying to cater to the "general public" has been trying to kill off Trek since the begining of TOS when the Cage was considered too cerebral. I agree about the money but if it staying on the air means that it will be crap then I'd say its time it dies... its been a good run. I would rather see it die then continually corrupted for the sake of money.

Good points, but what's it got to do with whether the film caters to the general public rather than specifically Trek fans? The best films don't focus on a small group, but to as wide a range as possible. That doesn't mean you ignore established canon, but it does mean that you produce a film that you don't need an encyclopaedic knowledge of Star Trek to enjoy.KuvahMagh wrote:I agree about the money but if it staying on the air means that it will be crap then I'd say its time it dies... its been a good run. I'm willing to go see it. I reserve the right to walkout on it and post of how much I may hate it if it does indeed suck massive monkey nuts on sunday after lunch but.... I am willing to give it a chance.

i'll go and see it. And i'll watch it through. And probably enjoy it, come back here, listen to rants, and actually see how crap it really is.

My attiude towards this movie and Trek is well known, it needs to die and then 20 or so years down the road they can try again.KuvahMagh wrote:I agree about the money but if it staying on the air means that it will be crap then I'd say its time it dies... its been a good run. But when you change things because it seems like the cool thing to do... look at those pics of the Big E... nothing like what I remember but hey maybe I'm not an uber leet fanboi like the people running it are... Obviously the film does not have to be targeted at only the hardcore fans, that would be stupid but to open it up, change things, disrespect the people who created it in the first place then try and claim you have respected the Trek legacy is garbage.Captain Seafort wrote:Good points, but what's it got to do with whether the film caters to the general public rather than specifically Trek fans? From the Teaser trailer, if anyone is interested Ex Astris has a possible diagram of what the ship may look like based on the brief appearance under his STXI ship listings. Is he is even close to being right (As in the change even a single thing about the ship from the original or from the DS9 redo of it) then the movie will not be worth the cost of the air that I breath when watching it...Grundig wrote:Ah, so there are pictures floating around...
