Then let them fight it out and who ever is left can keep all that sand to themselves. Seems a fine plan to me.

Or, the Israelis win, and go Samson. If we let them "duke it out," who will be the Jimmy Carter? Who will bring that generation's Begin and Sadat together, and convince Israel to give back territories that were won "fairly?" You can take my word, the next time that Israel wins land from attacking Arab nations, they will NOT give it back in the name of "friendship" so quickly.

I agree, and that will just make the situation worse.

Oil can come from a number of places. Places that would most likely require fewer troops for the US to "help" then the Mideast sucks up.

I still think they should just fight it out. What they need is a good old fashion war to end all wars. Their own little arab world war. If they are so fixed for a fight, give them what they want. Most people end up sorry when they aren't careful about what they wish for.

Chances are if they have a arab world war one will come out as winner and rule the middle east, then we have an arab super power to deal with.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

If the Middle East is engulfed in their own world war then say goodbye to cars, because oil prices are going to go through the roof until it ends.

All those books sound the same.
That said I just finished reading through this whole thread very interesting read. Makes you wonder what the best case senerio for the Iranians would be.
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Assuming there is indeed a conflict, the best case for the Iranians is that the Americans do damage to their nuclear program but miss most of it, since the Iranians are no doubt busily hiding it as thoroughly as they can manage. Iran does little or nothing in response militarily, but just plays up the victim card and earns a good deal of sympathy. If they get really lucky some stray smart bomb hits a hospital and CNN is full of pictures for a few days. Eventually the bombing stops, Iran claims the moral high ground, rebuilds the damage, and life goes on.
